Synopsis
Moore makes his fifth appearance as 007 in this, the twelfth Bond film. In this outing, the renowned British double agent must locate a weapons system known as ATAC, which controls Great Britain's submarines, after it is sunk on a ship in the Ionian Sea. While he must contend with a formidable foe in the villain known as Kristatos (Glover), he does have the lovely and talented Melina (Bouquet), the daughter of a scientist killed by Kristatos, on his side. For fans craving their old favorites, Blofeld, Moneypenny and Q all put in appearances. The stunts come fast and furious, most notably a breathtaking race down a ski slope at the film's opening. Academy Award Nominations: Best Original Song ("For Your Eyes Only").

Poor sound lowers standards in run of excellent Bond Blu-Rays3
The bond Blu-Ray releases have generally been of a very high standard, Dr.No in particular may be one of the very best disks out there. However, For Your Eyes Only is the first of these new releases to drop the ball. Not for the image, which is still superb; clean, and detailed with beautiful vibrant colours, everything you'd expect from a blu-ray picture (more so actually considering the film is over 20 years old).

No, the problem here is with the soundtrack. It is a very poor mix, with some sounds too loud when they should be soft, and others too quiet when they should be loud. The dialogue is particularly murky; muddled and drowned out by the score in most instances. The treble is harsh, and the sound generally lacks bass weight (accept for a few occasions in the music), and this detracts from the actions scenes. It's still a step up from the Ultimate Edition DVD, but I'm worried about the upcoming releases from the franchise. Hopefully, this is a little dip in quality, a shame considering this one of the stronger Moore efforts and the image is still noteworthy.

The lengthy loading times from the earlier disks don't seem to effect this one, which is good news at least. The extras are the same exhaustive library from the Ultimate Editions, with a bump to HD in some cases.

moores 2nd best bond film.4
For your eyes only was Roger moore's 2nd best bond film after Live and let die. After the outlandish star wars cash in which was Moonraker, the bond producers decided to bring back a more traditional Bond tale and the rusults are very good indeed. Moore is looking slightly too old for the role here and this is the film he should have left on but decided to do 2 more films after this. The flick is a lot grittier than moores other bonds but not as obviously hard hitting as the more recent casino royale/Quantum of solace standard for the modern age. Supporting cast is good with the ever reliable Julian glover ( empire strikes back, indiana jones-last crusade) and topol ( fiddler on the roof,Flash Gordon) stealing the show.

Blu ray is a mixed bag. Picture is nice but not outstanding. Some of the greek scenes look quite nice but fine detail is lacking but i guess Lowry digital did enough of a remaster to warrant this coming out on blu ray. Sound is a bit poor though and as another reviewer said the sound can be muddy and quiet in places.

This is Moore's last good bond film..after this he did the awful Octopussy..a low for the series and then the much better View to a kill but by this time Moore was well past it and looked an old man wearing too much hair dye and make up.

How did they make it so good?5
For fans of the real Bond (Roger Moore) this is a must have. I was bought this as a present and it exeeded my hopes. The quality is amazing, I don't fully understand how they produce such clarity when it clearly wasn't filmed with HD cameras???? It's better than some modern movies I have on Blu Ray filmed in HD. Another review says the sound isn't good... I didn't have the same problem but I played it through a 5:1 cinema system and it was better than being in the cinema.. This is so good I watched all the geeky stuff, deleted scenes etc. straight away. If you buy this you'll love it.
