This is the second of Tim Hughes' studio albums, and consists of some of the best songs he has written (in my opinion), including Beautiful One, Joy Is In This Place, and Consuming Fire. It also has new songs which show a deep understanding of the nature of God, such as Beauty Of your Peace, and Whole World In His Hands.
One of the best things about this is that these songs seem to have been written for the church. They are all within the reach of any music group, so that these songs can easily be used in worship. But don't think that means the album is repetative. The mood and feel of each song is different. Beauty Of Your Peace, When The Tears Fall and Nothing In This World are beautiful meditative songs, with When The Tears Fall (I've had Questions) having lyrics of trusting God when things go bad. The upbeat joyful songs of Name Above All Names, Joy Is In This Place, Beautiful One (Wonderful, So Wonderful) and Giver Of Life are real celebratory songs of God's love and blessings, but check out Soul Survivor: Anthem Of The Free, which has great live versions of the first three.
The only thing which could be described as being lacking in this album is the production. On the first listen, it doesn't immediately grab and you feel as though there is something missing about the whole thing. However, as you listen to it more, and it becomes more familiar, you grow used to the sound of the album and becomes a much better and fresher set of songs.
It is so worth getting this album, purely because of the strength of the songs, which I really think can reveal fresh and new insights of Jesus. Also check out his first album, Here I Am To Worship.
Passionate and beautiful
This is a wonderful and diverse album, which keeps growing on you as you play it. From the driving rhythms of "Beautiful One" and "Name Above All Names" to the hunger behind "Consuming Fire", and the passion and trust expressed through "You", "Whole World In His Hands" and "When The Tears Fall", this a CD to use to pour your heart out to God in all its moods and seasons.
There is a depth and maturity in these songs that increase your yearning for the God they exalt. It is refreshing to find positive songs of lament too that give you a place to express your sorrow and pain, without losing your trust in the goodness of God.
This really is a gem of both joyous praise and a deeply honest cry of trust in God no matter what. I commend it to you heartily.
Fantastic
This is just a wonderful, worshipful album. It improves with each listen and is full of penetrating melodies and striking lyrics. Really great.
