Customer Reviews

Extended warranty is a complete waste of money1
I certainly agree with the previous reviewer in that the description is misleading and appears to suggest the warranty period is for a *further two years* after the manufacturer's guarantee (normally at least a year), whereas in fact, the manufacturer's guarantee is *included* in the 'extended' warranty period. A warranty is an insurance against breakdown. A manufacturer's guarantee isn't an insurance policy and is not a warranty in that sense. By my reckoning, that isn't a two year warranty. It's a one year warranty only.

But anyway, all that is rather academic as warranties are only in addition to your basic legal rights under the Sale of Goods Act 1979, incorporating EU directive 99/44/EU on the Sale of Consumer Goods as the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002. This basically states that if a product develops a fault within six months, you are automatically entitled to a replacement or a free repair, or a partial or full refund unless the retailer can show that the merchandise was not faulty at the time of purchase, or could not be expected to last more than six months.

After six months and *up to two years* you are entitled to a replacement or a free repair if you can prove that the product was faulty when you bought it or that it could be expected to have lasted longer.

I think it could be expected that a DVD recorder with integral hard drive should last at least as long as two years and therefore the extended warranty offered is essentially a complete waste of money as it only covers what you are legally entitled to anyway. And your home contents insurance probably gives you better cover against accidental damage and loss than this policy.

This product really deserves a zero stars rating.

Misleading Warranty1
You would understand that you are receiving 2 years extended warranty but I have only received 1 year extended warranty over and above the normal 1 year warranty.

One star is undue praise.1
I agree with both the above reviews. A telephone oerator at Allianz claimed that it is a two year extended warantee because accident insurance starts from day one and was neither helpful or sympathetic. I cannot think of any likely accident that is not excluded.
I am in touch with Amazon and their agent agrees the description is misleading. I believe they intend to clarify the description.
