AWESOME SPITFIRE SIM-A MUST HAVE ITEM!
One word immediately springs to mind in respect of the Real Air Spitfire Mk IX & Mk XIV simulator- AWESOME!! This is an outstanding piece of software, an absolute must have for any PC 'Pilot' with an interest in the legendary Supermarine Spitfire. The accuracy & attention to detail on the various Spitfire models is stunning.They really are beautiful & 100% accurate models of this most glorious aircraft. The instrumentation is 100% accurate for the two respective MK's featured in the package.Look out for the reflection of the instrument gauges on the canopy-great attention to detail!The correct engine start-up & shut down procedures can be used by the more experienced PC Pilot. Each Mk is featured in several different liveries, including a number of aircraft flown by reknown Aces, Eg Johnny Johnson's MK IX Spit. The flight & handling characteristics are fantastic, the Spit responds instantly to control input, it really is fabulous to fly. Small wonder that veteran Spitfire pilots are so adamant that the Spit was the finest of all piston engined fighter aircraft! The two MK's have different handling characteristics & traits, this is very accurately represented, even down to the fact the Merlin & Griffon engines rotate in the opposite direction to each other. Obviously, this is reflected in the use of the rudder control on take off, as the respective MK's veer in opposite directions to each other.

The outright performance of the aircraft is extremely impressive. The MK IX which packs a potent Merlin engine with over 1,700 BHP, is very impressive. The MK XIV which runs a Griffon engine with 2035 BHP is a real powerhouse. To sum the MK XIV up, the following quote from Ken Wilkinson ex-RAF WW2 Spitfire pilot, says it all:- "The Spitfire MK XIV?! Oh by God there was some REAL power there!" The huge torque outputs of the two engine types makes for some very lairy take-offs, if you do not utilise the rudder effectively!

The sound effects are excellent, the respective sounds of the mighty Merlin & snarling Griffon engines are faithfully reproduced. In addition, both engines have to managed in the same manner as the real thing. If you run the engines at too high a boost level, for too long a duration, the engine oil overheats with disasterous results! Eg The engine fails & promptly dumps oil all over the front canopy. This dimension adds a lot of potential excitement to the simulation. Try gliding a Spit down with a blown engine, from several thousand feet to a successful landing if you want some real excitement!

There are so many superb aspects to this piece of software, that it is impossible to do it justice here with just a few paragraphs. It really is that good! A contemporary Spitfire display pilot has sung it's praises in a review (Google & you shall find!), describing the accuracy levels all round as being fantastic and as close to reality as you will ever get, this side of a real Spitfire. What more praise could you ask for?!

The instruction manual is very comprehensive. It includes the genuine Spitfire Pilot's notes, consisting of 40+ pages. This must be printed off.

This is NOT a 'game,' it is a serious simulation of the Spitfire, the most evocative, potent & beautiful piston engined fighter aircraft ever. Buy, fly, standby to be stunned, most of all, ENJOY! If you enjoy flight sims, you will relish this package. 10 out of 10!

There are many aircraft in this release (all Spitfires) and you can try your hand at handling the different marks. Excellent fun, if you want a challenge - set you difficulty level at its highest!
