Synopsis
RUGRATS meet THE WILD THORNBERRYS in this adventure that features characters from both of the wildly popular animated series. The Pickles family of RUGRATS decides to take a jungle cruise vacation that ends up in disaster. Shipwrecked on a seemingly deserted island, the babies are separated from their parents and must fend for themselves under the leadership of Tommy Pickles (the voice of E.G. Daily). Unbeknownst to Tommy, his idol--naturalist and television explorer Sir Nigel Thornberry (Tim Curry)--is also on the island with his family to film a documentary on the rarely seen white leopard, Siri (The Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde). Lost in the jungle, the young RUGRATS kids meet the Thornberry daughters, Debbie (Danielle Harris) and Eliza (Lacey Chabert), whose magical ability to talk to animals makes it possible to converse with Spike (Bruce Willis), the Pickles family dog. But Spike has lost his sense of smell, thanks to jungle allergies, and isn't much help in finding their way--he bumbles along, cracking crude jokes. Hysterical but witless, Spike is no match for the leopard Siri, and soon everyone is in danger of becoming her next meal as they race around the jungle in search of their parents. Devo frontman Mark Mothersbaugh composed the film's original score, which includes the duet "Big Bad Cat," sung by Hynde and Willis.
Customer Reviews
This film is great for all ages, IT'S A MUST BUY
This film is just, well I am speechless its so good, and worth to own, even if you don't like the Rugrats or if your older than 20, Its still no matter what a great movie, the ways its put together is just another thing, The film starts of like any normal Rugrats episode, but while on the boat, before they get ship wrecked, Didi uses the radio to contact the Lipshitz cruise, but when she's finished she hears a young teenager, its Debbie Tornberry, then it zooms out of the boat and to the Island, and then the film suddenly ignore the Rgrats and becomes a Wild Tornberrys film, as Eiza and Debbie argue, and Marianne and Nigel also are talking away, its just such a good film, SO PLEASE DON'T WAIT AROUND, BUY IT!"!!!!!
a note about the special features
I received this DVD today, excited about the special features for my younger sister's sake - and I have to say I was disappointed. The three deleted songs may amuse kids but they aren't fully animated - just the storyboards without even any colour. The alternate ending is very short and again, only half finished. I expected much more of the behind the scenes featurette, but finding that it was only a couple of minutes long and only about Chrissie Hynde and Bruce Willis and their scene where the leopard meets Spike, I wondered if I had a wrong version of this DVD where the rest was missing.
The film on the other hand is great, a wonderful adventure combining the Rugrats and the Wild Thornberrys. Highly enjoyable. I just thought the special features needed a review.
