Editorial Reviews

Synopsis
Based on one of Australia's most popular comic strip characters and set in the 1930's, this is the story of 10-year-old Fatty Finn who desperately wants to buy a radio set to listen to the great cricket match of 1930 between England and Australia.

Fatty sells bottles, collects horse manure and even organises a street fair to raise money. Meanwhile Bruiser Murphy, his arch rival, does everything he can to destroy Fatty's efforts.

With its hilarious script, great characters and colourful storyline, Fatty Finn is a must for the whole family.

Joyous celebration of childhood5
This gem of a movie is just one of the finest family movies ever made. All three of my children grew up with it. And they, like my wife and I, need regular Fatty Finn fixes -- supplied, till now, courtesy of my own DVD-dub of a free-to-air television screening I captured on video more than a score of years ago. I hope my DVD copy, when it arrives, captures the same super-saturated exuberant colour of the original -- my dub, with all its limitations, is as vivid as the best pre-War Technicolor.
This movie should be in every family collection. It's wild, irreverent, downright anarchic but with a core of solid gold. And it's timeless -- it's set in the Depression era in sinful Sydney, against the backdrop of Don Bradman slaughtering the Poms, but its spirit is still right in the 21st Century. Go get it!

Pure fun5
Pure fun, from the lost world of innocence, perfect for all children. The fact that the first three reviews of this film are from Australia raises a question: Why has this DVD been released in Britain and not Australia? Incidentally, this DVD will play quite happily on Australian players, multizone at least.

Fun for all ages4
I was unable to find this movie for sale in Australia and so was surprised to find it being sold by Amazon UK.

I sat down soon after receiving the DVD and watched it all the way through. The target audience would be children but as an adult I still found it quite entertaining. The movie takes a comical look at life for a group of urban Australian children during the Depression era. Lots of well known (at least in Australia) actors in the cast including Bert Newton and Lorraine Bayly.

For an adult seeking some old fashioned movie fun, it's worth at least four stars, but for children it's probably deserving of five stars.
