    Do your homework first!4
Before choosing the TomTom bluetooth system I spent a while researching the alternatives, and found that in general this is the most highly regarded of the wireless options. One reviewer was even tempted away from Pocket PC by the quality of the TomTom interface on the Tungsten T3. I also uncovered some concerning reports that an internal component shared by all major brands of bluetooth GPS receiver had a very high failure rate within the first 12 months. Naturally the gods of disaster were looking down on me and within 12 hours of receiving the product I am awaiting its replacement, although the pain has been eased a little by TomTom's support staff (although their support telephone number is rather well hidden in the 'Repairs' section of the TomTom website).

In short, TomTom is the best PDA-based GPS option on the market today. If you only intend to use it in a vehicle, then consider the cheaper and more reliable wired option. If like me you need truly mobile GPS, then be prepared to spend some time parcelling bits up and waiting for their return whichever company's product you buy.

    Gets you from A-B4
I bought my Palm and TomTom at the same time - my decision was based mostly on the fact that I used to use a Palm, and that my home computer is a Mac. The reason that I mention this is that the PocketPC version appears to have a little more functionality, in particular it lets you add custom Points of Interest (POI).

That aside, the quality of the kit and software is very good. The cradle is a pretty tight fit, but that does mean that there are no rattles...

The mapping is provided by a 3rd party, and this is the weakest link (although all GPS systems have a similar issue). Because of the time delay between a road being built, and it's inclusion in the mapping software, you may occasionally find yourself apparently driving through fields or lakes, when in fact you are on a newly built road. This isn't too much of a problem on small bypasses, but the M6 Toll isn't included either!

My only other gripe is that there's no facility to search by postcode - this becomes an issue if you're trying to find a site with a building name rather than number, but the ability to browse a map helps this.

If you can live with those issues (and I can) then this is a really indispensible tool, and it does what it says on the tin.

Excellent when it works, but too unreliable3
I bought the bluetooth version to avoid wires strewn all over the car but when it arrived the mounting bracket had a part missing. I returned it a few days later, but got a chance to use it in the meantime.
I got it to connect to satellites once out of 5 attempts, which was VERY frustrating. When it worked it was great, but I decided to replace it with the wired version, which has still to arrive. However good it may be, it proved too unreliable for me to put up with and hopefully the wired one won't have the same problems.
