    Apple iPod nano Dock5
The dock has two connections on it, a line out 3.5mm jack and a female dock connector port. The dock connector obviously connects to the computer. The line out is not for headphones!

The idea of the line out is that you can connect the ipod to an amplifier or hi-fi. The advantage of using a line out connection over a headphone jack to connect to amp or hi-fi is that the line out port bypasses the headphone circuitry, and the sound quality is better. The volume control on the iPod won't affect the line out 'volume', because you're meant to adjust the volume on your amp. Please read manuals before moaning about products!

But anyway... it does the job, and looks great too on your desk. :)

    Great add-on4
This is a really useful and attractive piece of kit.

Before it was a bit of a pain getting the USB and getting everything hooked up. Now I just set my nano into the dock and I'm all set to go. I can do everything I want to do including hooking my nano up to a stereo while the docking bay charges the battery.

I agree with the other user who suggested that an ipod mini docking station would do the same job but if dont already have one then why not try this. I don't think you'll be disappointed

    Not necessarily necessary!2
Whilst I'm sure the Nano dock is a nice piece of kit - it certainly looks it and most Apple products, of which I have many, do appear to have been consciously designed rather than simply having evolved from toasters - do you really need one? Having graduated (?) from an iPod mini, I find its dock to be perfectly serviceable for the Nano.
