Dont Buy it !!1
Basically Don't buy this.... I have played Meridain 59, Ultima, EQ1, EQ2, Conaan.... and this is probably the worst!! buggy and cpu/ graphic demanding of them all. And the graphics are no better than EQ1.

Long overdue potential3
It's been a long time since release and people constatly maintain this game has potential, but even after so long since release we have still yet to see it.

Okay, this game has been released for 18 months now. The idea of this game was just over ambitious, it was released early due to financial implications and as a result lost a huge number of its early buyers. It wasn't long before servers started to empty, even after the need to introduce a new EU server initially. As subcribers started to dwindle sigil was taken over by sony completely to try and revamp the potential of this game. Soon after, anyone who bought the game initially was given a free month to play, about 8/9 months ago, which still turned out to be a let down. Some things had been ironed out, but other horrendously irritating aspects of the game remained along with it's bugs and exploits. Some months later, we receieved another free month to try and tempt us back - which could only mean SOE (sony online entertainment) were beyond desperate to get subscribers back - but even then I couldnt see anything different/better from the first free month, playing just continually felt like a chore. The price of the game is now practically free to intially buy, another sign that SOE need subscribers back as noone new is buying into the game, even EQ2, which is 4 years old now still cant be bought for as cheap as a mere 18 month old vanguard.

The game is nice, it looks good with some amazing scenery - flying mounts, boats, diplomocy a new tradeskill method and more, but it's still let down by stiff, uncoordinated, unattractive and stuttering animation.

Almost immediately after creating a character you are thrown into small quest lines, xp grinding/quest grinding - which just doesn't draw you into the game and it isn't long before you become bored by monotony which even the stunning graphics can't solve.

I find it difficult to find much that really makes this game something special - The seamless exploring is a nice feature, but having zones is sometimes a nice feature. For example in everquest 2 you have substantially varying zones, lavastorm and everfrost, nektulos forest and the feerrot, whereas in vanguard, you get an endless zone of scenery which doesnt change perhaps as much as it should, nor as sudstantially as it should to keep it interesting.

I dont think this game will ever hit the expectations it built before it was released, nor do I believe that it will ever pull through some of the most killer problems that it's had since release, but only due to the unbelievable vastness of this game. I thik it goes to show that size, doesn't matter in terms of an MMORPG. Myabe vangaurd could have started with one of the continents on release and introduced the second in a later expansion pack that might have saved it from its current fate.

Vanguards population is on the increase again, personally it's not my thing, but maybe with more subscribers the team will be re-inspired to work hard for us to make it something amazing in the future, but with a 7 year expected life and 18 months already gone, how long's it going to be until we get something we can really say "yeah, that's something amazing"?

What EQ2 should have been4
After playing EQ1 I thought EQ2 would be just as good but it wasnt, for me the instancing spoiled the realism. This game has so much potential and even though the player community has dwindled (it is picking up) you can still enjoy solo. Definately worth a look especially considering the new low price here. There are still bugs and it does require a good spec machine to run to full potential I have run on a buisness laptop with graphics/sound turned down but not advisable. Downside, as i normally play a cleric, I dont get to sit around as much these days as the clerics here need to fight aswell.
