Editorial Reviews

Synopsis
This is a complete behind the scenes look at the film-making process and the technological innovation in Sony Pictures Image Works new film, "Monster House", in cinemas this autumn. It features amazing "flip book" storyboards, director's sketches, concept art and photographs of the actors' performances caught in "motion capture" animation. The book will include interviews with the stars and artists involved in developing the story, the characters and the technology. It is presented in beautiful four colour, 3D art, "house and character" pop outs, gatefolds, die-cut overlays of the five stages of computer generated "motion capture" technology, including a DVD with press kit material, interviews with Spielberg, Zemeckis, Gil Kenan, Steve Buscemi and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

A unique book of monster proportions5
What can be said about this fascinating book?

It comes in a slipcover, it has lush images throughout, and it's a good read?

Well let me tell you, I was expecting a `run of the mill' `making of' book, but what I received was a marvellous, originally produced document, an insight into the preproduction process of modern filmmaking.

The pages are filled with detailed images of the whole process of the creation of the film, it demonstrates how all the elements were conceived and put together.

However, the most fantastic thing aside from the main body of the insightful material was the unique build up of the book itself!
In `regular' books there are pages with text and images on them, well this book also contains `post it' notes glues on to the page (yes actual post-it notes), `bubble gum' cards glued on to the pages (each packet holds a selection of removable cards to collect too)...this book actually resembles an assignment journal by the movie producers, it's as if the publishers had been given the raw material and they just printed it as it is for your enjoyment.
I have never seen such an inavative book, filled with such wonders.
This book takes pride of place amongst my ever-increasing book on the subjects of filmmaking.

Scrapbook Goodness5
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/review/R2GBJ4GFTETGCU This was the artbook that started all the scrapbook-styled artbooks. It's easily the best and it still is. Inside the book's cardboard cover was some really top quality dust jacket. It's comparable to movie posters and its glossy.

This book had 160 pages and was literally filled to the brim with tons of stuff. Inside were "collectible" cards, storyboards, small booklets, post-it notes and amazing beat boards. Numerous 2-page spread of the beat boards were breathtaking to look at.

Stocks do run out for artbooks, as I've realized, looking at older artbooks from amazon.com. If you're into buying artbooks, you really don't want to miss this.
