This is the third book in a comprehensive new series featuring the evolution of the railway scene on a regional basis. This volume examines the Southern region, exploring the period of prime modelling interest (effectively the years from 1948 to 1968 with an emphasis on the years after the Modernisation Plan of 1955) and giving a detailed overview of all developments. Drawing upon a wealth of unpublished material, Southern Region expert Kevin Robertson examines the various types of trains which evolved in the Southern Region during the 20 years from Nationalisation, through to the final demise of main line steam in 1968. With individual sections focussing upon important areas such as express passenger services, branch line services, suburban services and pick-up freight, this book covers everything railway modellers and historians could wish to know about the SR in an easy, accessible style. With detailed captions and over 170 clear colour illustrations depicting the changing features of the railways, this book belongs on the shelf of every serious railway modeller and SR enthusiast.

Southern Man
This book is one of many written by this author, I found this to be one of the best. It is well written, in a logical order covering most aspects expected under this title. The ratio of photo to word is just about right, and the quality of the colour prints is excellent. The only down side is that for the cost I might have expected a little more content.
