Running Halo on a G4 Powerbook (1Ghz, 1GB RAM, 64MB Graphics Card) and its working perfectly. The lack of support for controllers bothered me to start with, having played on the xbox version, but with a two-button mouse you only need to slightly modify the default keyboard layout to get usable controls. And oh yeah, the new flamethrower and warthog with rocket-launcher are the business. Just a shame it took four years for Bungie to release it . . .

At last! Marathon VI !5
like a lot of old-school mac gamers, i've been waiting for this game for a long time.

too long, really. it's not the huge revelation it would have been 3 or 4 years ago, just a state-of-the art FPS.

Unreal Tournament has the edge on eye candy, and arguably Medal of Honour gives good competition in Bungie's specialist field - story - but Halo is a good solid contender for your forty quid.

some of the level design in the middle section of the game is a touch repetive, but the 'silent cartographer' and 'maw' levels are worth the price of admission alone.

i run it on a 1.25ghz G4 with 2gb of RAM and i can just about max all the settings (exept the mysterious FSAA) and still get playable speeds.

for me, it was worth the expense of upgrading my mac, but then i have been waiting to play this game for 4 years!

The title says it all5
A halo is defined at dictionary.com as: "The aura of majesty or glory surrounding a person or thing that is regarded with reverence, awe, or sentiment."
This game is the fps for the contemporary age, now back on the platform which it was initially designed for. Unlike most of the first person shooters on the market, Halo boasts advanced AI, perfectly balanced weapons, a multiplayer that just won't quit and a single player which would knock the socks off a centipede! The graphics and textures are superb, and the gothic sounds compliment the sci-fi story and image.
As for the storyline, you are the Master Chief, the last of the legendary Spartans, which are bred for combat. You must infiltrate the ringworld HALO and discover its dark secrets. Expect huge, seamless dogfights, lengthy but never tedious exploration and not seeing the outside world for months (Unless, of course, you have an ibook). The game is extremely difficult on the harder settings, which is a challenge to even an expert player, and the 10 sprawling levels with their epic battles are enough to make you want to come back to blast a Grunt with a shotgun, or laugh as you get killed by an unstoppable Hunter.
The multiplayer is really where this game shines. Play online with up to 16 people with the maps from the X-Box original plus 6 new ones. Fly a Banshee for the first time and take out enemies from the air! Or, if you prefer ground-based assault, equip the all-new flamethrower and deep-fry your enemies from the field. An element of tactics is implicated in choosing weapons. Realistically, only two weapons can be carried at a time so careful choosing at combinations have to be thought out.

Overall, a fantastic game that will go down in history with other benchmarks of gaming like Tetris, Super Mario and Zelda.
