Pure genius5
I have vivid memories of watching the Flumps when I was little, and finding it so surreal that I was captivated by it. These days, most TV shows give kids things that they already understand, but when I was four I didn't want to be spoon-fed; every episode of the Flumps contained something that fired my imagination and got me thinking.

Mother Flump sings a beautifully sad song about the fact that there are no butterflies on the moon. Posie muses that 'today feels more like an un-day than a day'. Pootle turns into a magnet. It's all a million miles away from the rather predictable kids TV we have now.

Yes, the colours are occasionally a bit washed-out, but that just adds to the wonderfully strange atmosphere. I gave this to my three-year-old niece for Christmas, and she's just as fascinated by it as I was. The only problem is that she now wants a cuddly Pootle, which could prove slightly more difficult.

In short, buy this for yourself and for your kids - they'll enjoy it every bit as much as you did.

Takes me straight back to my childhood4
From the theme music, i'm taken straight back to being a small child. I'd forgotten all about this programme, until someone at work reminded me of it. The memories came flooding back. They just don't make children's programmes the same as this anymore.

My 3 year old loves it!5
I borrowed this from the British Council Library and my daughter insists I keep reborrowing it. She loves it plus it's THREE hours long. She's picked up a fair amount of vocab from it too.
Since writing the above the BC Library has been closed so I was forced to buy the DVD! My, now 7 year old, daughter still loves it. Try also Bagpuss and Pipkins.
