joyful5
this film is an absolute joy and classic...beautifully rounded (as in fully developed personalities, not toad's waistline) characters, lovely plot, happy songs, celebration of nature, cosy and lovely
Perfect for when you feel poorly..or for days in when cold outside...or is that just me....
A joy every time you watch and my cat's favourite...believe me this is praise of the highest order
..."on the ooooppen rooooooooaaaddd.."

We want "The Director's Cut"! 5
Not much to add to the other rave reviews, but it did strike me that, true as this is to the original book, several of its scenes were left out for reasons of length. However these DID crop up in various episodes of the subsequent TV programme (of which series 1 & 2 are now out on DVD).

Wouldn't it be nice if somebody could put these scenes (which include "The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn", the gypsy caravan, the bargewoman, etc.) back into the correct running order to give us an epic "original"?

Wel, I can dream, eh?

Phenomenal - not to be missed.5
20 years later and I return again and again to this timeless and beautifully-crafted piece. I cannot imagine my life without this faultless adaptation of my favourite childhood book. Whenever I turn the pages of this work again, it is impossible not to hear the voices of Ian Carmichael, Peter Sallis, Michael Horden and the unique David Jason and the perfect realisations of Ratty, Mole, Badger and Toad. Despite the advances in animation and special effects that are found today, to me this will remain the most evocative, genuine and heartfelt rendering of "The Wind in the Willows" that we are ever likely to see. Adults and children alike should wholeheartedly rejoice.
