Synopsis
Based on the popular novel by Bret Easton Ellis, Mary Harron's cinematic adaptation retains the over-the-top humor that made Ellis' book such a cult favorite. Christian Bale is hysterical as Patrick Bateman, the successful commodities broker whose disgust for everyone he encounters leads him to committing heinous murders. The film tackles all things 80s, including pop music, fashion, and the world of big business, all to hilarious effect. Graphic and brutal, AMERICAN PSYCHO is an unflinching satire, but one that should keep enlightened audiences laughing throughout.

Sing of the times1
This movie was set in the 80's. It's really more of a picture of todays world. Alot of people have said they like this film and it has gotten some great reviews. Also its been said you will either get this movie or you wont. I DIDNT. Bale is a handsome gye without a shadow of a doubt but he plays the most evil, superficial and shallow character iv seen in a long time in this rubbish. I had the feeling that we are sort of ment to like his character in a strange way or at least feel sorry for him but for me this was not the case. He's a gye with a beautiful shell and an ugly soul. In an era where the way you look seems to be the be all and the end all, this film played right into that frame of thought and im not all that sure that the film makers wanted to be critical of that fact. The world is very superficial right now and i saw this movie as promoting that. Just because the character of Bateman is handsome certainly doesn't excuse what any ugly and rotten person he is. It just left a very bad taste in my mouth and it came across as the kind of movie that some people will try to avoid saying they dislike as that may sound uncool. Maybe there is a deeper meaning to this movie that i cant see but i do think it was a movie that could have been much, much better put across.

CHRISTIAN BALE IS HOLLYWOOD'S BEST RIGHT NOW5
AMERICAN PSYCHO is not your typical serial killer movie. If you are looking for a shlasher film full of blood, gore and guts, you'll be ultimately disappointed. If you are looking for a witty, satirical thriller, with Hollywood's currently most promising actor, this one'll be right up your alley. No one could have portrayed Bret Easton Ellis' serial killer better than Bale. No one could have directed this film better than Mary Harron. Make all Fridays and Maniacs look like crap.

"Try getting a reservation at Dorsia now..."5
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Okay, there will be people who won't 'get' this film, but it's one of the best films ever made, and just gets better every time you watch it. Bale, for me, is the best actor of his generation. He is amazing as Bateman, and nails (no pun intended - okay maybe it was a bit) the role perfectly. This is a brilliant satire, and if you've hung around round Wall Street or the City of London, then you'll know people like him. I'm off to get some new business cards right now...
