Amazon.co.uk Review
"Filmed in VIDECOLOR [explosions, drum roll, music builds to a climax] and SUPERMARIONATION"! The opening sequence of Thunderbirds is itself a masterclass in Gerry Anderson's marionette hyperbole: who else would dare to make a virtue out of the fact that (a) the show is in colour and (b) it's got puppets in it? But everything about this series really is epic: Thunderbirds is action on the grandest scale, pre-dating such high-concept Hollywood vehicles as Armaggedon by 30 years and more (the acting is better, too), and fetishising gadgets in a way that even the most excessive Bond movies could never hope to rival. Unsurprisingly, it transpires that the visual effects are by Derek Meddings, whose later contributions to Bond movies like The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker echo his pioneering model work here.
As to the characters, the clean-cut Tracey boys take second place in the audiences' affections to their cool machines--the real stars of the show--while comic relief is to be found in the charming company of Lady Penelope and her pink Rolls (number plate FAB1), driven by lugubrious chauffeur Parker, whose "Yes, milady" catch phrase resonated around school playgrounds for decades. (Spare a thought for poor old John Tracey, stuck up in space on Thunderbird 5 with only the radio for company.) The puppet stunt-work is breathtakingly audacious, and every week's death-defying escapade is nail-bitingly choreographed in the very best tradition of disaster movies. First shown in 1964 and now digitally remastered, Thunderbirds is children's TV that still looks and sounds like big-budget Hollywood.

A timeless Anderson classic
There is so much in Thunderbirds to enjoy again and again, that this complete DVD set is a must-have for fans of all ages. Surely this was by far Gerry Anderson's finest hour, somehow later shows never quite captured the magic for me that Thunderbirds managed to sustain for all 32 episodes. Good stories, wonderful rescue craft, and containing something of the spirit and elegance of the sixties; Thunderbirds says it all. I've been enjoying the series again with my daughter -five -who loves it, and the DVDs have obviously enhanced the viewing pleasure. Small niggles - the enhanced picture quality shows the strings more than I remember them! Plus, the stories are out of sequence with the original showing order, but DVD access makes this problem irrelevant, although the need to tinker with the running order is something of a mystery. Enjoy.
Brilliant !
The quality of the whole package is F.A.B. Sounds corny I know, but it is wonderful watching my 4 year old get as much enjoyment out of Thunderbirds as I did at his age (which was when they first came out !). It's funny really, I still can't see the strings. I had to wait a while for the set to come (6 weeks) but I, err..., I mean my son is really enjoying them.
From the F.A.B. world of Gerry Anderson
In 1962 Gerry Anderson put himself, wife Silvia and producing friend Regg Hill on the map with the ultimate Super-marionation series Thunderbirds. Here for the first time all 32 episodes can be yours to enjoy all over again. Follow the Tracey family and there adopted orphan Brains as they help keep the world a safer place and from the hands of the Evil Hood. But its not all about the family. Think about English branch Lady Penelope and Parker as well as the schemes of agent Zero X as they follow the progress of International Rescue. Also in the series we find Brain’s assistant Tin-Tin and her father Keyrano who looks after everything at the family island. Try as he might not to give away the plans of IR he is the half brother of the Hood and can be controlled by his evil sibling.
This is a great set with all sorts of extra including 2 special programs made for the set. I was a bit disappointed by the poor 5.1 surround sound as the 2 channel re-mastered mono to stereo conversion is much better.
Be a kid again and relive your youth with this F.A.B. set.
