DVD Description
Having knocked out judges at this year’s Cannes, winning the Grand Prix Du Jury prize and championed by Tarantino, Park Chan-Wook’s startling OLD BOY comes out on DVD in a fantastic two-disc set. Unsettling but ingenious and darkly comic, it’s a revenge movie wrapped in a mystery that twists the nerves at every scene. Following a drunken spree, a businessman is arrested and imprisoned for 15 years, not knowing his crime or who his captors are. Suddenly, he’s released and given three days to discover why he was shut away and who was responsible. A critical and box-office hit, the double disc set includes newly created English subtitles and commentaries with a exclusive Park Chan-Wook interview and original UK trailer.
Synopsis
A man who is held captive for fifteen years and whose wife is murdered is released suddenly and given money. He is asked to discover why he was held prisoner. If he finds the answer his kidnapper will kill himself. Korean dialogue with English subtitles.

absoulte masterpiece
This film is absolutely spectacular! I have to say i became enthralled by japanese/chinese/korean films because of this film. Min-sik Choi (oh dae su) plays a great leading role as a manic and desperate man locked up with no reason given.
oh dae su looks great in his black suit and his shade (which i think only he could pull off!) The plot of the film is simple, just read the tag line "15 years of imprisonment, five days of vengeance". It is very stylised and the music goes perfectly with some of the scenes!
The fight scene in the corridor is quite reminiscent of the street fighter games and the scene with the hammer............. well i wont spoil it but you have to have a strong stomach to watch what he does with! if you dont even cringe at what he does YOUR NOT HUMAN.
what i love about this film is the fact that it sticks true to the character. he has been locked up for 15 years so you do not expect him to have attained super human martial arts skills! and this is exactly what happens! his fighting technic is quite thuggish, brutal and rough! his desperation of trying to solve the mystery of the film can be seen in his acting as well as his fighting technic! The part with the tooth brush! quite genuis! as you would not expect him to use that as a weapon!
In parts it is darkly humourous and you cant help but laugh at the manic character and his insane attitude! all in all... a great film with a simple plot, great cast and teriffic fighting scenes
the ending of the film is quite horrific i have to say!(what oh dae su finds out) i really did not expect that and the punishment that oh dae su recieved seems quite excessive of the crime he commited!
if you havent seen it yet! WATCH IT! theres a reason why its been awarded the grand prix award! (it is subtitle)
Twists and Turns!
A fantastic film. Great story, great acting and excellent camera work.
More twists and turns than a back lane in Devon. Graphic - Yes, Gruesome - Yes, over thetop - No.
Leaves an impression long after watching. An essential purchase for anyone, not just for asian movie fans.
The DVD is well put together, a plethora of extras, just an all round great package. Top marks to all involved in producing the film, and producing the DVD.
Not worth the hype.
After all the hype over this film maybe I was expecting too much. But I found it dissapointing overall. ^Lady Vengence^ and ^A bittersweet Life^ I found far superior. When you find out the reason for his abduction and imprisonment for 15 years, it^s so dissapointing. You think is that it.! That^s the reason. He^s a bit of a pathetic character, his vengence could of been far better too. He doesn^t even kill the villan, instead just mutilates himself.! It was so obvious that the young woman was his daughter, long before he was told. No, I found it dissapointing, not the great film I^d expected it to be.
