Manufacturer's Description
Meet the seriously sophisticated new WALKMAN!
The brand new NW-HD5 is an ultra-compact 20GB HDD player, combining great looks with cutting edge design and an incredibly long battery life.

The NW-HD5 is quite simply one of the smallest 20GB HDD players around. With its incredibly light aluminium body and tiny credit-card-size dimensions, this ultra-compact model gives new meaning to the word 'portable'.

Don't let its diminutive dimensions fool you: this sleek little player is capable of storing up to 900 CDs worth of music. That's a staggering 13,000 of your favourite tracks on tap wherever and whenever you want them. You'll always be able to find the right tune for the right moment.

It goes on and on and on
With so many tracks at your disposal, you'll need a really powerful battery to be able to listen to them all. Luckily Sony has thought of that: the NW-HD5 offers 40 hours of battery life. It leaves the competition standing and you listening to your favourite tunes as long as you want.

What's more, the battery is removable meaning you can carry a spare or pick up a new one while you're out.

Easy to use, easy to love
The NW-HD5 is extremely user-friendly. Sporting an exceptionally large and easy-to-navigate 7-line LED screen, the attention to detail in the design of the player is obvious. From its bright backlight display through to its elegant front and its adjustable screen colour, the NW-HD5 provides a superior user experience.

What's more, its technologically-advanced 'follow turn' feature means the display is synchronised to your hand movements, flipping from horizontal to vertical depending on your every move. Now there's no such thing as the wrong way up.

Just in case of accidents, this player carries extra insurance in the form of a sophisticated G-sensor. The NW-HD5's specially designed sensor kicks in when dropped, providing immediate and effective shock protection.

The NW-HD5 comes supplied with SonicStage3.1 software, making all your downloads and track transfers simple.

Available in a choice of three stylish colours: black, silver, or red

    I don't go anywhere without it5
This is a great player. Its small, slim and unobtrusive and fits neatly in a shirt pocket The battery lasts ages. I have used it for two days of near continuous play before requiring recharging. The control interface is easy to use and you can create playlists on the fly. The software that comes with it uploads your MP3s directly from the PC to the player. I don't even notice ATRAC.

One limitation I see, once you've filled up 20Gb. It can be be somewhat frustrating fiddling with the buttons to scroll to your files.

Highly recommended for people who aren't Ipod drones.

    absolutely love it!5
as my CD collection grew, i coulnd't lug it all the school every day, but i never knew what i would want to listen to. and so, i decided to ask for an mp3 player as a birthday present, and i chose this one. i am very clever. it is awesome. 40 hours battery life. 13000 songs. ipod-butt-kicker. the only bad thing is that it isnt colour, but then, why do you need colour for a music player??? i can't live without it, i love it. i've had it for about 5/6 months so far, and have had no problems, except when it got stuck on the turning-on screen, but all you have to do is take out the battery, put it back in and start again, no probs.
please please do not buy an ipod, they suck. don't follow the crowd!!! - this is much better. i listen to it for about 3/4 hrs a day, and i barely ever have to charge it up, and i have no idea how im gonna fill up all that memory space, ive only got 854 out of 13000 at the moment :D the sound quality is perfect, and the earfones you get with it arent bad, though they do start to hurt a bit after a while, but i think that mite be just me i think i have funy shaped ears, cos all in-ear headfones hurt me :(
anyhoo, in conclusion, by this and i very much doubt you'll regret it!!!!

    nearly right3
Sony seem to shoot themselves in the foot a lot lately. On the plus side, this is a very small player with good battery life, and very good sound quality.

On the minus side, the player has EQ functions that only work on Sony's ATRAC files, not MP3 - so to get full sound quality out of this you have to take the proprietary route. The software is also clunky, but it does work.

The main gripe though is that the case scratches REALLY easily, in fact the leather case (sold seperately) actually inflicts deep scratches in the device. After a few months, the battery seems to have dodgy contacts and it switches off randomly if knocked.

Sony really need to have a bit of a rethink here; the market has spoken and ATRAC is not the standard of choice. There is a lot of competition so quality and durability would be a good differential, and that's what people expect from Sony.
