Lamaze Octotunes is a spectacular Octopus and one of a wonderful collection of soft, lovable toys that have been designed in conjunction with Lamaze International (an award-winning American childbirth and early parenting organisation) and Yale University Child Development Experts. They are designed to stimulate imagination and discovery by exploiting the senses and imagination as the child develops and grows.

Eyecatching, soft and cuddly, Lamaze Octotunes belongs to Stage One of the range-–a toy to "Awaken the Senses"--and it is aimed at babies from birth onwards. This is a time when vision, hearing and touch develop rapidly and the Octopus helps develop these senses. It is sturdy and at the same time beautifully soft and squashy. It is brightly coloured and contrasting, with various patterns. Each of its legs plays a note and put together these notes form a musical octave, which means tunes such as "Mary Had a Little Lamb", or "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" can be picked out. Grow first and then play Octotunes
Having been bought Octotunes as a present for my daughter, (then aged six months) we found the bright colours attractive, but my daughter wasn't able to do much more than look at it, as it is quite heavy for a toy aimed at this age group. It does however, have a pleasing vanilla scent to it. Now aged nearly eighteen months old, we have more fun, as she is just about strong enough to squeeze the different coloured legs to make a variety of musical notes. Octotunes' main body has a very soft feel to it though, almost like a teddy bear and has stood the test of time so far. The colours are still just as bright, the scent just as fresh and the musical notes - just as musical.
Maybe this toy should be aimed at a twelve months and over age group, as they are more developed in strength and ability.

beautiful but not useful
This looks lovely on the windowsill in our playroom but sadly isn't used. The legs are just a bit hard for little ones to grip and squeeze to produce the notes. My children are 3 and 1 and can't really play with it even yet.
