Customer Reviews

A little disappointed :-(3
My daughter really enjoyed the farmyard version of this set when she was younger and so as she was showing an interest in letters we thought we would progress onto the phonics version.
When we unpacked the letters I was suprised how much space they took up (almost covered our fridge door!) so we then put the base unit onto the freezer next to it so that it was at a height that she could see. Unfortunately the unit is quite heavy and on our fridge it started to slowly slip down the door. Once it had 3 letter tiles in it picked up speed and ended up at the bottom!
This may not be the same with all fridges but it is no use on ours and we have resigned ourselves to the fact that it will now have to be a table top game. The reason we chose this was BECAUSE of the magnetic element - tidy & always around and visible ready for play.
Fun and durable as a phonics word building game in its own right but 'doesn't do all it says on the tin'!

Great little toy when your child is ready to play with letters4
Brought this for my son (3yrs old) as he was starting to show an interest in letters and I wanted to give him something that starts to develop that interest. It is slowly working. He likes placing letters into the plane and once he gets a word right (the machine reads it out to him with congratulations), I suggest replacing one of the letters. He likes this as he gets another one right!
No problems with the product. It's robust and sticks to my fridge just fine.

One of the best electronic phonic toys out there4
As a primary school teacher I am often sceptical about electronic phonic games as they are often phonically incorrect or have phonic 'flaws', however I bought this for my 'just' four year old and he loves it! It is phonically correct and it reads 2 letters as one sound when they make one sound for example e and a as 'ee' when in the word 'sea'. It uses letter names as well as sounds (something which is now mentioned within the new early years framework) and encourages children to play around with the words to make new ones, so good for pre-school children who may have only just started to be interested in letters.

The only reason it has lost a star is because for me it could reinforce the letter sounds a bit more though I guess that's me being a picky teacher! Definitely a toy that you will enjoy helping your child to use - particularly if you have no idea how to help to introduce your child to words and letters. It doesn't have to be on the fridge - works just as well on the table. As I mentioned definitely one of the best phonic/word games for 3+yr olds I have seen and it is a very reasonable price.
