The wrap is the waterproof bit and is purely to prevent wetness wicking onto your baby's clothes. You won't need to change this every time you change the nappy and will only really need about two per day - one for daytime and a fresh one at night.

gussets are very poor
the item does not conform to the image represented here -- it features only a single unreinforced elastic edge, unlike the reinforced and double edged gussets in the picture. the leg holes therefore do very little to contain the contents of a full nappy. we have been happily using other nappy wrap brands with prefolds and have had very little leakage, but on our first attempt with the tots bots we had a huge leak. it resulted in poo on our clothes, our baby's clothes and even the carpet!
