Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
You never see a Mario Party game mentioned at the end of year award ceremonies. Nor do they ever seem to attain particularly high acclaim. Yet the clue here’s in the title: this is the sixth time Mario and chums have brought their unique blend of party gaming to a Nintendo console, and they just keep getting better and better.

It’s best to think of Mario Party 6 as a computer-based board game. You sort-of-roll a dice, you move a number of spaces, and then you land on a square which could trigger an action, give you coins or take some away. Then, at the end of each round, the four players--and you can mix in human and computer-controlled opponents--join up for a mini-game to play for more coins.

These mini-games can see everybody playing for themselves, or jumping into even or unevenly matched teams. There are dozens upon dozens to work through, each with simple rules yet they still manage to bring out most people’s competitive edge. A new initiative for this sixth game is a bundled microphone that makes some of the games voice controlled. It’s not a world-altering addition, more a neat evolution of an already enjoyable concept.

And that last sentence ably sums up Mario Party 6. It’s great fun, especially with friends around, and there are enough game boards, mini-games and diverse in-game characters to make the game entire last for some time. There is an enjoyable single-player story mode too, which adds to the fun.

Thus, whilst Mario Party 6 will, as with its predecessors, escape the fanfare and the awards, it’ll still rightly take its place as one of the most enjoyable, family-friendly games on the Game Cube to date. And given the amount crammed into it, it represents terrific value for money. Roll on number seven…--Simon Brew

Generally excellent but with flawed new technology4
This is the best Mario Party game released...that is certain. Because I play a lot of computer games, I used to thrash my regular Mario Party buddies at almost all the mini-games, because they generally required only a handful of pad skills and were not that varied. However, Mario Party 6 is a much more balanced game and even my mother managed to win the mini-game star (this really is a miracle on the record of the previous games).

The only issue we have is the microphone. Don't get me wrong, we LOVE the idea of the microphone, and the games are great when they work. However, it is quite clear this microphone was programmed with an american accent for the english-speaking market. Before, there was no way to cheat in a Mario Party game, or no way for something to go wrong that would spoil the outcome of the game. Now there is both. The microphone is sometimes VERY bad at recognising what you say (especially directions or numbers). Even if you speak very clearly and slowly it still mucks up.

All the same, there are only a handful of microphone games and it is possible to turn them off if you desire. All in all, this is a fantastic game and well worth the money.

mario party 6 with microphone.5
Great game, absolutely ideal for the younger gamer, but great for the family when played in party mode.
The microphone mode is a great touch, adding variety to the game play.the microphone works very well as long as you speak clearly. The speed of the game has increased, making the waiting times between turns less, again adding to the strength of an already top class game.with new items to collect and use. This title is worth buying, even if you already own,a mario party game.Buy it,once in start playing, you just will not be-able to put it down.A most title,The best of the series so far.
great fun!.

Microphone power4
This game far beats Mario Party 4&5 just for the reason of the microphone minigames, especially the one where you sit in a giant robot and try to blow everyone else up by saying into the microphone: 'drop bombs' 'bullet bill' 'goomba' etc. The only downside is that there are not enough of the microphone minigames! Only 5 out of the 60-80! But still a very good game.
