Customer Reviews
Awesome - When it works
Initially I gave this a five star review and I stand by this on sound quality and looks. However, and it is a big however, about 6 months in after moving it from my kitchen to my study, it began to stop playing. It would still charge so it was connected but it just would not play. After all the stuff the Troublshooting guideline failed, the last resort is to unplug it, leave it rest and then power it up again. Particularly annnoying when it comes back at a very loud volume. This went on for weeks and in the end I brought it back to the store. Luckily it was only 6 months old, so I got a replacement. 2 minutes in to the replacement, the same thing, I tried 4 different IPods and I also have another IPOD player (that docks the same way), the same problem with all the IPods and I could dock any one of the IPODS in to the other docking station and it worked perfectly (£40 that one, never had a problem with it) so it was definitely the sounddock. In the end I gave up, as I had lost confidence in the brand and got my money back. The guys in the shop did allude to this being a common problem as the docking part is really flimsy and falls away when you lift it up. One of them actually stated that they thought BOSE had sorted that problem out (they have if you go on to pay another £100 and get the fully portable one). This is a real shame as it has fantastic sound, when it plays, but if you cannot rely on it, something whose sole purpose is to play music then it is not much good.
Sounds awesome
Perfect companion to an Ipod. The sound quality is amazing and it charges your pod too. I got it cheap from the states so hunt around for a cheap one. It's been replaced by a portable one but its still great. In case you're interested, the US version just has an American lead and DOES operate off UK power (unlike what it says on the box). The remote works well and it is soooooo loud too (if you want it that way).
THERE IS BETTER!!
I have owned a Bose Soundock for a couple of years and used it to play my music collection in my living room. The sound is ok(i used to think it was great) and the styling attractive but after mine had an accident i began searching for a replacement. I visited countless stores and online review sites and have found a system that for a similar or slightly cheaper price blows the soundock away! If portability is a priority for you then read no further as the system i am recommending is not designed to be moved from room to room but more so as a hi fi replacement. Its the i300 made by high end speaker company Jamo. The system comprises of 2 small beautifully finished
satellite speakers and an equally attractive larger subwoofer available in black, silver or white. The sound quality is stunning- louder, warmer, richer and purer than the soundock by a considerable margin. Like the soundock the Jamo was designed for the ipod and comes with an ipod dock which connects to the subwoofer, however the i300 boasts 2 inputs which enable it to transmit its glorious sound from your pc or tv! It is simplicity itself to set up (5 mins)and comes complete with an RF remote which can transmit from anywhere in the house to the system. It also boasts brackets should you wish to wall mount the satellites. If you are searching for a means of replacing your old hifi and playing all of your music collection through your ipod this is without a doubt the best option on the market full stop. Dont take my word for it though-type in a group test search on the net and see for yourself or read the user reviews on Amazon-all of them 5 star! The soundock produces a decent sound dont get me wrong but Danish speaker manufacturers Jamo have blown the competition away with a quality of sound and build that the Bose simply cannot compete with. There is better!! (Please feel free to comment on this review)
