Manufacturer's Description
The RAC 300 GPS Sat Nav System boasts a large 3.5” touchscreen, which will display your maps in incredible high definition, so you can see clearly and easily where you’re going. The 300 GPS Sat Nav System comes pre-installed with full maps of the UK and Ireland and has a highly sensitive GPS receiver, so you can locate yourself and your destination quickly, simply by tapping in the address using the SMS style Quick Search.
The 300 GPS Sat Nav System then presents you with a comprehensive route plan and includes thousands of searchable points of interest, including restaurants and fuel stations, so you can plan your journey in detail. If you go wrong or take a detour, the 300 GPS Sat Nav System will automatically re-calculate your route.
You can also choose how your directions are displayed – the 300 GPS Sat Nav System offers 2D and 3D maps, as well as clear step-by-step voice instructions that’ll let you keep your eyes on the road. For your safety, the 300 GPS Sat Nav System also has a night view mode and delivers fixed safety camera alerts to help you keep your speed in check.

Very happy with this sat nav
I got this sat nav as a gift for Christmas 2008 having researched and reviewed it thoroughly on the Internet. I am very happy with its features and navigation. Just take time to set it up, update it regularly and you won't have any problems (unlike one reviewer!). However, I have found a couple of things you should be aware of: The instructions for the cd installation are for Windows XP and I have Vista. You need to download separate sync software and the windows mobile centre to enable you to set it all up. This is very simple as Vista/Windows update recognises what you are trying to do and automatically finds it for you. The sat nav does not recognise mini roundabouts i.e. the small painted ones or ones slightly raised above road level. However, I checked a friend's different sat nav and his doesn't do it either so it may be a common error on all sat navs. You don't get a hard copy user manual. It is on the cd provided and is 114 pages long!. You do get a one-sheet quick start guide. I need the sat nav for work, so works laser printer came in handy to print off the manual.
The good stuff now! It picks up your GPS position very quickly. Battery life is about 6 hours (my tip is to let it fully discharge on first use then fully charge it up). The mount is sturdy, no shudder and fully adjustable. It calculates your route very quickly. If you turn wrong, it re-calculates immediately and tells you to turn round etc. There are loads of extra features and the free safety camera updates for life is a real bonus. The screen is uncluttered and the voice direction is clear, loud and precise. You can choose a variety of voices in a variety of languages if you are that way inclined.
I was happy with my choice before I got this sat nav but now I have used it I am even happier. It is a bargain at the price. Hope you find my review useful.
What a gem
What a great unit from the RAC. I love the quick search which means If I don't have the exact address information I can put bits of information in and always find what I am looking for - like a google search
Also the homesync as lots of great features. You can update your device as often as you want including important things like saftey cameras, but you can do lots more with it like download lonley planet guides etc many of which are free of charge.
The directions on the screen are really clear. It visually shows you your next manoeuvre and then your next manoevre after that so you can prepare yourself and get in the right lanes. This is really helpful in busy towns and cities. Also, when you are on the motorway it puts up the junction signs on the screen so you know what you are looking for.
You wont be dissapointed
RAC Sat Nav
I bought this to replace a system somebody stole from my car - so I was only looking for basic A to B functionality. It's on a par with my previous system with only two little annoyances that I have discovered so far.
1 - It takes longer to get a signal and start calculating your route about 30 seconds plus. So you need to input your destination and start driving and the directions will come up eventually.
2 - You have to put a space in between your postcode or it can't work it out at all.
In summary it's a nice entry level bit of kit. It has hit my destination every time up to now. I got it at a reduced price so I'm more than happy with it.
