Customer Reviews
Scannerz remake. Nice idea, so-so execution.
This product is basically a re-launch of the (ingenious) Scannerz concept where you had to collect monsters that were "hiding" in bar-codes like tho ones you find on cereal boxes etc. Scannerz was totally new & fun to play.
Catcha Beast dumps the barcode reader and uses a magnetic field sensor instead (yes, you can confuse this thingy with a strong magnet). The result is a cool concept. In theory. The gameplay is over-complicated and the handset poorly executed: Buttons with 0 funktion = FAKE buttons, a reset switch that doesn't reset the unit and a moody on/off switch... lame.
Mine stopped working after one evening of "play" ... I won't even bother trying to return it: I'll salvage the sensors and display and dump the rest...
Great fun and good value
When my 10 year old son got this for Christmas, he loved it and wouldn't go to bed in case a beast came when he was asleep. Also he would jump out of bed in a trice if a beast appeared. The graphics are pretty basic, but that doesn't seem to spoil the fun. There are always some elusive beasts you haven't caught yet, and you can compare notes with your pals. This toy has been dropped a lot and suffered no damage. It is great fun and good value.
