Synopsis
Producer Roger Corman's cult classic film Death Race 2000 gets a millennium overhaul with director Paul W.S. Anderson (Event Horizon, Resident Evil) behind the wheel. Jason Statham (The Transporter, The Bank Job) plays Jensen Ames, a prisoner who is serving a sentence for a crime that he didn't commit. But in this futuristic society, Ames can compete for his freedom with a victory in a brutal three-day race.

Joan Allen (The Ice Storm, The Bourne Supremacy), Tyrese Gibson (Baby Boy, 2 Fast 2 Furious) and Ian McShane (Hot Rod, TV's Deadwood) co-star in this high octane chase film.

This Blu-ray Disc comes with the following language tracks: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Japanese.

One for the blokes4
I really got into Jason Statham through The Transporter films, with their tongue-in-cheek violence and humour. This film is darker, slicker and even more entertaining, with some seriously lethal hardware in the form of armoured race cars roaring round a prison compound racetrack trying to blast each other to smithereens. Definitely one for the blokes! It's supposed to be a remake of Death Race 2000 from the 70s, but bears no resemblance to it other than the name of the lead character - Frankenstein. Notwithstanding, it's a highly enjoyable romp that doesn't tax the brain too much. If you can watch it in Hi-Def with surround sound and a six-pack of lager then so much the better.

Much better than I expected5
I saw this at the cinema and must say it was much better than I expected. I assumed it would be a bit cheesy and not to be taken too seriously. How wrong I was, it was more serious and action packed and violent and I loved it. (I wasnt even a fan of Jason Statham til I'd seen this) With the blu ray coming as an extended version with some cool sounding BD live features this is a must buy for anyone who likes action movies. 10/10
