WARNING: Not the Second Edition & Custom Rules
As far as I understand, this version of Zombie Corps(e) was made for the original Zombies!!! game, and not the graphically revamped Second edition. If you get this hoping to combine it with your Zombies 2 (2nd ed) you may be horrified to see the old cartoony style of the expansion side-by-sie with the top-down 3D style of the new boards.
The 2nd Edition of ZombieCorps(e) can be purchased in the UK from many, many comic book shops and game shops (and websites) which offer foreign imports. I strongly recommend doing this if you have the 2nd Ed of Zombies!!!
Now, this expansion adds some nice new tiles and glow in the dark zombie figures, but personally after playing it once I've decided to skip buying it and instead have gone for:
- Zombies!!! - Send in the Clowns
- Zombies!!! - The end
As for the School one, I don't think I'll be bothering. I've yet to play it but it seems the only real reason to purchase the expansion is the new spiffy 'Guts' rule, which can be simulated easily enough by creating your own custom tokens and saving £15.
On the subject of custom rules, here is what I suggest:
- Sprint: Roll 2 x D6 instead of 1 x D6 for movement, but you can't play any cards or attack. You may not move through zombies.
- Clown Zombies (expansion): Clown zombies, instead of acting as regular zombies, Clown Zombies take a roll of 6 to kill and count as two kills to your zombie pile. If they attack you, they take away 2 hearts. If you share a tile with Zombie Clowns, rolls of 2 or 1 cause you to panic and lose 1 guts token (see School expansion).
- Fire Axe: If you roll a 1 with the Fire Axe it breaks (prevents it from being far too overpowered)
- City expanding (long-medium games): Instead of expanding at 1 tile per turn, the City only expands when you approach the edge of the current tile. This enables an RTS 'fog of war' element to the game and prevents the city growing out of control too fast.
- Carnival of the Damned: Forget the whole Clown Car and Big Top objective if you've applied the deadly Clown Zombie rule above. Just killing them without getting your head stuffed with cotton candy and bitten off is hard enough!
- Circus (Clown Guard): When the carnival is placed, roll a dice to decide how many clowns guard the entrance. These clowns cannot remain stationary and must be moved into the city towards the nearest player.
- Toy Shop Clowns: When the Toy shop is placed, roll the dice. 1-3 place one clown zombie in the shop, 4-6 place two clown zombies in the shop. Then, panic!
A great board game overall, but I feel it needs a few tweaks to get it how you like it. Take out cards you don't like, agree on slight alterations to card rules with the people you're playing it with (before you start). But most of all don't feel bad about playing with the format, you bought it after all!
