Amazon.co.uk Review
Commanders of the fleet: your navy needs you.

Games don't become timeless classics without good reason and Battleship is no exception. Plot your way through the original naval strategy game.

Battleship arrives with two (easy to) self-assemble game consoles; two individual naval fleets (including an aircraft carrier, a battleship, a cruiser, a submarine and a destroyer); and numerous scoring pegs. The consoles themselves add a certain element of military excitement with carefully marked coordinates to plot your own military strategy and more importantly to monitor enemy movements.

The objective of the game is quite simply to sink your opponent's entire fleet. One by one you select a coordinate and fire. With good judgement (and not a little luck) you strike a direct hit and locate one of your opponent's vessels. In the meantime your own fleet is under siege from enemy combat.

The game is by no means difficult and is simple enough to be enjoyed by children aged 7 and up. Yet the thrill to Battleship means that it also captivates adults.

Battleship is also very self-contained and will only take between 20-30 minutes to finish one game.

You will enjoy Battleship if you enjoy games about strategy, planning and coordinates. There's certainly skill involved to Battleship but luck can play a strong role too. The course of the game can suddenly turn around very quickly with two lucky strikes. Suitable for players of 7 years and over, two player only.--Victoria Mackenzie

Battleship4
I remember when the first version of this game came out in this form when I was a lad and my mum being quite dismayed that a game she used to play with pencil and paper was now presented by little plastic boats and hit and miss pegs!

Nearly 30 years on from that event, my children and I are still getting plenty of enjoyment out of this game and I would heartily recommend this as a great addition to the games cupboard for the whole family.

Where this strategy game works very well is that even if a adult is playing against a much younger child because there is always an element of luck in the hitting of your opponent's ships and a random placement of your ships can work just as well as a much thought out one, the chances of the child beating the adult is just as likely.

The rules of the game are as simple as they come, players take it in turn to attempt to "hit" each others ships which are positioned on a 10x10 grid using the traditional map references of A5, C7 etc. Once an initial hit is scored, players try to hit the rest of the ship and ultimately sink it. There are 5 different ships and each requires a certain amount of hits to sink it. The first player to sink their opponent's ships is the winner.

The construction of this game is as good as any. The playing consoles are great to look at and will withstand a certain amount of dropping and standing on. The small pegs and ships are somewhat more of a problem and you do have to take care not to loose any of these.

Each game lasts about 20 minutes and you're just as likely to play one single game in a sitting as you are to find yourself in a 50 game marathon! Great Fun!

A Great Game About Navel Combat4
Like other board games of the same era, Battleships has become an all time classic, especially for children. I have been trying to figure out why these few games have become so popular, and i now believe that it is because each time you play the game, it always ends up differently, and this is where the fun of this game lies.

The object of the game is basically to sink your enemies entire fleet of ships using your own carefully planned stragedy. The neat little consoles add a touch of realism to the game as well and it also allows you to track the movement of your enemy.

An extreamly durable game and after a few go's it wil leave you wondering where the hell all the time has gone to. Buy it now and i promise you will never tire of playing it.

You will lose track of time.5
I have played this with paper and pen. I have played this on a Unix multi-user system. And I have used this product. All work well. However this has a tactile feel and a spatial strategy that is lost in the other forms of the game. My favorite strategy is to use diagonals until making a hit then switching to verticals.

The toy is durable. However it is not advisable to put the parts in your pocket, as they may not be there next time you go to play.

The basic Primus of the game is to sink your opponent's ships before they do the same to you.
