Manufacturer's Description
The x302 cross trainer / ergometer represents the pinnacle of quality and performance, with a touch of class thrown in. Everything about it demonstrates your serious attitude to exercise. The electromagnetic drive system is behind the smoothest and most balanced elliptical motion available in the York range, even at the highest resistance settings, and the clear, easy to read LED display provides all the feedback you need for an effective workout. Furthermore, the console is ingeniously mounted onto fully adjustable handle bars which let you adjust the angle of the display, so it’ll be at the perfect viewing angle no matter what your height! The solidly constructed frame will take a maximum user weight of 150kg and the large non-slip footplates are fully adjustable to match your own natural stride pattern.

Smooth with the odd quality glitch4
York X302 EllipticalLike the other reviewer I found this trainer does take a couple of hours to assemble and ideally requires two people.

Lets get the bad bits out of the way - the socket for plugging in the power supply is flimsey being mounted on a long thin strip of metal and I struggled to get the plug in. For a heart stopping moment, I thought it might have to be dismantled and sent back. The second lesser issue is the manual. It is like the sort you got in the 1980's with poor; quality, print and spellings.

In use the trainer has been excellent over the last couple of weeks, very smooth and so far robust with no rattles or squeeks. The programme module is good and can be easily read once you have worked out how to use it (poor manual to blame). The adjustability of the front peddle hight and footplate position is also very useful and allows you to maximise comfort or stretch on the calf muscles.

I bought this trainer because it was recommended by Which? magazine and so far I am pleased with the product having been nervous as a result of the other reviews.

In summary - Excellent in use but let down by a poor manual and flimsey power supply socket mounting

I have had this machine now for 6 weeks. First impressions were great - easy to assemble, smooth action and loads of features. Since week 2 I have had 3 faulty consoles, a knocking noise every time the peddle goes around and finally a loud bang every few minutes (as if something major has come loose inside). York have offered good aftersales service and following a visit from their engineer they have now replaced the product. If I could change the star rating I would go back up to 4 out of 5

    A let down - of sorts.1
After considering a crosstrainer for some time I settled on the 302. It was well priced for what I believed to be an excellent looking machine. I placed an order at the end of Feb. Delivery from HDNL took longer than I expected and in the end I went to North London (from South London) to collect it. A nice 4 hour round trip but the weather was good so I didn't mind. After building it for a couple of hours which in all honesty was fairly simple albeit some of the pictures were a little difficult to work out straight away.

So on to using it and I was very impressed to be honest, what a cracking little machine. Using it for an hour+ every other day the last month or so everything was working great and I have seen a massive improvment in my fitness and my body.

Fast forward to Sunday just gone (19th) I heard a squeaking sound. Took some of the plastic covering off to get some WD40 on the joints and to my shock and horror the bottom arm where your feet go and the upright arm had literally ripped apart from each other, alot like opening a tin can. This could have ended in a nasty accident if I hadn't have take the plastic housing off. This is just over 7 weeks of picking up the machine.

It's funny as last week I had an email asking me to write this review. Then it would have got a glowing review and 5 stars. Because I didn't have the time it has now gone to 1 star. Don't get me wrong when this thing was working it was brilliant, but for the metal to just open like that is a serious design flaw or something wrong with the materials used.

Up until that Sunday I would recommend this to anyone, now I don't think I could. Even if it was just the unlucky 1 in 100.
