Manufacturer's Description
The UX16 USB-MIDI Interface is about the easiest way to connect your musical keyboard to your computer. If your computer has a USB jack (most computers in the last few years do), you simply connect the UX16 to your USB connector on your computer and plug the MIDI in and out cables (shown shortened in the photo above - the actual length of the USB cable is 2 feet and the length of the MIDI cables is a little over 4 feet) into your keyboard. You will have to install a "driver" so that your computer knows about the UX16... the driver is included with the UX16 on a CD-ROM.
By connecting your MIDI instrument to your computer you are opening up a world of possibilities! The interface allows you to transfer data back and forth between your instrument and computer. Depending on your instrument's abilities, you can create your own user songs and transfer them to your computer, and you can use your keyboard as a MIDI controller when using recording, sequencing, and notation software.

Driver problem
The hardware itself is great, but the driver disk supplied contains no drivers for Windows XP x64 Edition or Windows Vista. A compatible driver is available from [...], though you need to search for the PSR-295 keyboard USB - MIDI driver and use that.
Be Warned...
I bought this because it was suggested in my keyboard's manual and so, I naturally assumed that it would get the job done. However, when I tried to set it up I discovered that it will NOT work on an Intel based Mac. There was no mention of this anywhere in the manual or specifications. Very unhappy about this and thought I'd warn any other Intel Mac users to steer clear of this.
Great interface
Quite pricey but at least you know it will work - plenty of cheap alternatives but I prefer the Yamaha brand.
THE NUMBER ONE GAFF WITH MIDI CONNECTIONS is connecting IN to IN and OUT to OUT (although this seems sensible at first!). This is a very common mistake and an absolute classic! Just make sure you connect IN-OUT and OUT-IN......much as you would connect the power inlet on a device to a power outlet on a wall (you don't go linking all your plug sockets together do you?!).
