Play On!
About 12 years ago we bought a similar keyboard to this one for our daughter, by a different company. The lighting keys sold that one to us, so when our son decided to start to learn piano/keyboard in high school we looked for something similar.
This keyboard is outstanding.
The keys are touch responsive so the output volume alters according to the attack on the keys, there are 3 step learning programs that allow you to learn the right hand and left hand parts separately, the note you press is shown on a stave on the left hand side of the LCD display, when learning a song from the extensive inbuilt song bank the correct fingering is shown on the screen! You can even alter the tempo of these songs with a one touch button (tap tempo) to suit your playing.
We tried this out late at night before wrapping it for his birthday next day, and did not want to stop playing with it. I even texted the neighbours to get them to come see it!
There is midi output to allow a more experienced player to input to a computer, the mapping of the samples is good for general midi, some of the sounds are really well modelled, and there is an extensive sound effects bank that are also responsive to the velocity of keypresses.
Well worth the money, well worth the lack of sleep from not wanting to put it away.
Impressed so bought another one
My sister and I bought this for my cousins son (11th Birthday) who has just started music lessons with the idea he would have something to practice on (and grow into as it has full sized keys). He is not the most stable of children but he was quickly engaged with this as the built in tutor and play along/wait feature means that you start making impressive music straight off (however it does come with a built in James Blunt song, you have been warned). We liked it so much (two hours of taking turns to try songs) we've decided to buy another for ourselves. Now we just have to fight over who's house it will live in.
We especially liked the light up keys, the display showing the correct fingering (first with one hand then with both) and the display showing the note son the stave to help with reading music. You also get a music stand, power adaptor (some retailers sell this as an extra!) and a music book of the more traditional build in songs.
