Army of Two - More Like Team America
Army of Two is about 2 mercernaries, Rios and Salem, who are dropped into real world hotspots (such as Iraq and Afghanistan) to resolve conflicts. There is a plot, but nothing worthy of mention, in fact the whole thing reeks of chest beating American patriotism. It may work for some, but completely turned me off.
Yet the controversial subject matter always made this an enticing prospect. The focus is very much on co-op play, which works well and is entertaining enough.
However, single player isnt so hot. The game just doesent flow, as the majority of levels are a a collection of awkward and under-developed set pieces. The 'back to back' mode would have worked far better if it could be activated randomly. Parachuting sections makes terrible use of sixaxis (which mercifully can be turned off).
In addition, the graphics are underwhelming, only the menu screens have any of the typical EA presentation. Despite being able to 'pimp' your weapons, the shooting isnt much fun.
The 'aggro meter' is a great innovation though, and the only mechanic in Army of Two that actually works.
Sadly it isnt until the later levels (like Miami International Airport) that Army of Two shows its true potential. And by then its almost over. The ending also sets Army of Two up as a franchise, so hopefully the sequel will develop these good ideas more intelligently.
Don't listen to anybody else, this is amazing!
First off, this game was not a disappointment and don't listen to anybody who says that it is. The people who have written a bad review for this game are either blind or just do not appreciate the brilliant gameplay and clever techniques used throughout.
I have only just got this game but am already enjoying it, having started a campaign with my brother. It can get very intense and you will probably end up shouting at one another (even on screen), but in the end it's worth it.
The attention to detail, to me is spot on, and I would not play it if it were any other way. I thought that the graphics were amazing and the list of things that you can do in co-op mode with a friend is brilliant. You take part in dozens of activities together including prachuting, driving and looking out for one another with the newly thought up aggrometer, which allows the other person to be practically invisible to enemy sight, making it easier for you to take up a good vantage point in order to kill as many enemies as you can.
The icing on the cake for me though had to be the vast array of weapons to choose from, and the fact that they are upgradable to every possible imagination, including the addition of shields on weapons and even other guns.
Overall I rate this game 5 stars because it has what I like to call the 'excitement factor'. It is an action-packed game which is sure to keep you on the end of your seats throughout. It is a must have for any ps3 owner and you would be a fool not to buy it. I try to compare this game with others to help you decide for yourselves, but I cannot think of any to compare it with. It is unique, take my word for it.
Thank you for taking the time to read through this review, and hopefully ignore other negative reviews. I hope this helped in making a decision as to whether or not to buy this game.
Great but short lived
i did write a review before, and so you can obviously see i was going to buy this game, as the script, the gameplay and the premise are all brilliant ideas. upon getting it on saturday me and my friend played it, and completed it within a night. Then the other difficulties aswell. And yes the gameplay is awesome, and everything is great, controls, graphics, everything i expected. Just after that there was nothing else to do. We tried going online, but there is a worlwide problem with the servers by EA, and so having to wait a few weeks for a patch is going to be annoying, and even then i cant see it being great as COD4 online. And so i do reccomend this game, as when you do play it, it is brilliant.
BUT : play it with a friend, alot more fun, trust me and just be wary that after the few hours spent, you are done for now, but hopefully not for long
xxx
