Manufacturer's Description
The New MacBook - Beautifully engineered, inside and out
From the Multi-Touch trackpad to the LED-backlit display, MacBook Pro has been precision engineered down to the smallest detail. The new MacBook Pro unibody enclosure is slim and streamlined with a soft-brushed surface and stunning contours. But it's not all about beauty. The unibody also makes MacBook Pro more durable than ever. You can throw it in your briefcase or messenger bag and pull it out at an airport, in a hotel room, or on location without a second thought. So wherever you go, you have everything you need to edit, compose, design, and create.
Strong. Silent. Type
The rigid aluminium keyboard webbing has been cut precisely to hold the keys. And the keys are curved to perfectly fit fingers. The result? Pure typing bliss. The keyboard is also illuminated, so when you're in low-light settings, such as airplanes or conference rooms, you can always see what you're typing.
The first thing you might notice — or not notice — is the missing click button. Now the entire trackpad doubles as the button, so you can click anywhere. Without a separate button, your hands have 39 percent more room to move on the large, silky glass surface. Use two fingers to scroll up and down a page. Pinch to zoom in and out. Rotate an image with your fingertips. Swipe with three fingers to flip through your photo libraries. Swipe with four fingers to show your desktop, view all open windows, or switch applications. If you're coming from a right-click world, you can even configure a right-click area on the trackpad to access shortcut menus. The more you use Multi-Touch, the more you'll wonder what you ever did without it.

Fantastic
Yes, it is a lot of money, but wow.. what a machine... and if you look at other machines available with similar specifications, it is actually very well priced + you get to use os x and not vista.
I use mine for 3D intensive applications and it performs fantastically. My PC workstation with 4 cores at 3Ghz and an 8800gts 768mb graphics card does not perform nearly as well as this when editing the media. That amazes me. It is a laptop. It also very capable at running games. Half Life runs very very smoothly with everything on high.
The trackpad is fantastic and changes the way you think about browsing the internet. The gestures that it allows you to use are natural and very helpful. Show any of you friends the trackpad features and they will run off and check their bank account to to buy one of these laptops themselves. You will find a lot of people going on about the trackpad for a reason.. it is fantastic.
The glossy screen has not annoyed me once yet. primarily due to the extreme brightness of the screen, which is great. But don't worry, when the room is dark, the keyboard will illuminate and the screen will dim down. The battery is great, the sound is pretty impressive but not a selling feature, the webcam is clear and works well in the dark and the casing is astonishingly attractive, strong and rigid although the edge is a little sharp when typing. The keyboard is great to type on and is fully sized.
Get this laptop, you will not regret it. Not even in 4 or 5 years time. By then you would of had a couple of PC laptops.
Superb, but weighty
After putting the purchase off for months, the release of this machine meant I've finally upgraded from my old MacBook to this new MB Pro. And I'm impressed.....it is very, very good.
Main plus points are:
Speed: OK, I upgraded to the 2.8Ghz processor and 7200rpm hard drive, but comparing it to my iMac desktop (with only a slighter lower spec) it is clear that the speed comes not just from the processor. The faster RAM and more of it (4gb rather than 2Gb) keeps up with the processor and applications load and run much faster when doing back to back tests.I do heavy usage stuff like photo editing and this machine is easily up to the job, making the whole experience much more enjoyable.
Touchpad: The new touchpad really works well. I thought the lack of a separate button was just a gimic, but it quickly becomes second nature and I really like it. I'm just getting used to being able to do different things with the touch pad (using two fingers to scroll down for example) and this is really simple too.
The case: Build quality is top drawer. Very classy and the large area for the wrist rest is welcome. Oh, and the glossy screen has not proved a problem with reflections at all so far.
The software: Setting this up from the box was just SOOOoo easy. It reminded me just why abandoned Windows machines!!! I also got a MobileMe account at the same time, making it easier still!!
Minus Points:
Weight: Even compared to my four year old Mac laptop, this thing is big and weighty. I knew this when I ordered it and it wasn't a huge consideration for my needs, but consider lighter alternatives if you have to carry your machine for long periods.
So, if you want a powerful, reliable laptop that can easily keep pace with many desktops, then go for this. If you regularly use a laptop to use on the train / plane and occasionally the office, then consider the Macbook Air.
The best quality laptop available
WOW!
The following are mindblowing:
The solid one piece aluminium case - It looks and feels beautiful, the build quality really is lightyears ahead of the competition.
The speed and power of the machine for audio work (I have the 2.8 GHz model)
The bright screen which oozes class
The soundcard is superb for a laptop. It's clear and loud.
The keyboard feels soft and well spaced and the trackpad easily becomes intuitive - now when I go to use my pc laptop I acidentally try and click the trackpad and tap two fingers for menus - surprisingly, it doesn't work.
The graphics - 512 RAM, check!
