Bloody brilliant!
Loosely based on the novels by Jeff Lindsey, Michael C Hall stars as Dexter Morgan, a friendly blood-splatter expert for the Miami PD who happens to have a dark secret - he is also a well accomplished serial killer, murdering Miami's bad guys. In this series, carefully mutilated bodies are turning up all over the city, Dexter is fascinated as each body is completely bloodless.

I've recently read the novels and loved how it was dark humour mixed with grisly murders and mystery and this show captures the feel and style (with the help of the amusing narration) of the books perfectly. The casting in particular is excellent - I don't think there could be an actor more perfectly suited for the role of Dexter than Michael C Hall. He has all of the loveable killer's personality, sense of humour, his near-emotionless and confused feelings and style down to a tee. Hard-faced and ambitious Deborah Morgan is also very well cast with Jennifer Carpenter playing the part. Julie Benz plays Dexter's emotionally scarred girlfriend Rita brilliantly too as well as a great supporting cast with the rest of the characters.

The main storyline follows the investigation of The Ice Truck Killer (which is close to the book) but also goes deeper into the lives of the other characters that are not in the first book so much such as Doakes, Angel Batista and Rita which I thoroughly enjoyed as I felt that these were great characters in the book and wanted to know more about them. The mystery of who The Ice Truck Killer is is fairly obvious later on in the series (way before the identity is revealed anyway) but that doesn't stop it from being extremely suspenseful in the last couple of episodes as the reason why was still a mystery and kept me guessing the whole way through with various other sub-plots.

Overall this is an amazing series that I'm very addicted to now (I watched all 12 long episodes in just 3 nights). The picture and sound quality of the Blu Ray edition is outstanding and I'm currently enjoying the second season at the moment. I've read other reviews saying that the next seasons are even better but I can't see how that's possible!

Wow, just wow!
This is an amazing show!
The narrating, the direction of the show and characters are amazing.
I haven't been this entertained in years! This goes straight to the top of list! It's fresh and doesn't smell of "knock off of C.S.I".
It would highly recommend this, if you love Sopranos, and even though this doesn't deal with the mob at all its still one of the best shows to hit the screen!

Thrilling
This has got to be one of the best things I've watched on TV in years.

Dexter is brilliantly written, expertly acted and directed and is well worth watching.

I bought the box set as I couldn't wait from one week to the next to see what happened. When I watched the ending all I could think was how perfectly it all wrapped up.
