a missed opportunity but worth buying3
This dvd is a missed opportunity - essentialy it comprises four episodes that were screened on the BBC during Wimbledon fortnight two years ago or so. I would have liked more concentration on great matches and rare archive material. Some of the archive material was pretty good and some rare material was discovered but there should have been more. The picture quality is superb. The narration I feel is a bit simplistic and appears to be aimed at the third form, rather than at adults. I would have liked more analysis about the playing styles of the great champions, what made them so great and what their playing weaknesses were.

The extras were a huge let down and frankly not worth having as the video clips therein were a simple repetition of material already on the dvd. The four episode format also led to some repetition and a lack of chronological continuity at times.

All in all worth having for but only as an introduction to the history of Wimbledon. A definitive dvd has yet to be made.

Superb insight into another world5
Every tennis fan should see this, history, nostalgia, emotion, a superb collection of footage that will whisk you away to another world! 4 hours of this stunning insight into the greatest championships of them all will make you want to watch it again and again. The background music is hauntingly apt at taking you back and forward thrugh time to savour the extraordinary feats of some of the worlds greatest athletes. A must for any tennis fan, great value for money.
