Amazon.co.uk Review
No-doubt the first of many greatest hits from R&B's true survivor, The R in R&B Collection Volume 1 reminds that R Kelly's status as one of America's most successful singer-songwriters has as much to do with his staggering ability to juggle personas as his way with a tune. His has been a career of very mixed messages. On the one hand, there are the lascivious early hits; slick and slinky declarations of a ravenous sexual appetite over equally filthy grooves. "Bump 'n' Grind", "She's Got that Vibe" and "Your Body's Callin'" established him as a master of saucy swing beat, and a decade on they're just as good. On the other hand, with the fantastically schmaltzy "Gotham City", "The World's Greatest" and mother of all overblown power ballads, "I Believe I Can Fly", he's wholesome family entertainment. Then, just to confuse matters further, "I Wish" is a sentimental ballad that's loaded with genuine feeling and a children's choir Jay Z would be proud of, while "Ignition (remix)" has him back at his sex-obsessed best. God's gift to women or voice of purity, either way, Kelly's impressive strike rate means that The R in R&B Collection Volume 1 is loaded to the hilt with ubiquitous radio hits. But with such a split personality, he's probably the only person alive capable of liking all of them. --Dan Gennoe

The Worlds Greatest?
Say what you want about R Kelly the person - His music is out of this world.
In my opinion he is the Marvin Gaye of my generation. The man has produced music to suite most of the black music genres across the board. Hip Hop, R&b, Soul, Gospel - its all in there.
This greatest hits, although missing many many more fantastic tracks is a true testement to his abilty as a singer, songwriter and performer.
Having come back with the utterly superb "Chocolate Factory" album the first track on here is the number one single from that "Ignition remix". Good stuff but its the second track that blows my mind. "Your Bodies Callin" could be the best R Kelly track ever. Not as popular as "Bump n Grind" (both from the album 12 play) but in my opinion the better of the two. "Bump n Grind" though is a classic, and will still be played by many at clubs even now.
"Shes Got that Vibe" is ultimate R Kelly - Sexy yet fun. Very 90's - but just fantastic.
My favourite track on here is "Thank God Its Friday" - another track that is overlooked by the masses - yet it is just superb. "Gotham City" is obviously a track that gets frowed upon - although i'm not a hater of it. Its cool radio freindly track.
"Home Alone" is another party storming track, as is "Fiesta" which sees the Jigga Man take part. "The Storm is Over" & "I'm Your Angel" are weaker R Kelly tracks. They are crossover tracks which in there own right work well. I would have rather seen some more, what I would call, real R Kelly tracks which are not included on this set. Such as "How You Remind Me", "Sex Me" & "Honey Love" - Tracks which are all on the DVD.
The bonus Disc gives us some great moments too - Thoia Thong & Step In the name of love (remix) are two fantastic tracks - especially the latter.
This greatest hits package although not complete in my opinion is a must for any fan of R&B.
Some of you older Soul fans shouldn' turn your noses up at this either. R Kelly is this generation's soul man. And we love him.
Exellent!
This is sheer brilliance! An artist who can actually SING and write songs. The mixture in era and styles combines into one superb album! This album is classic and so good it is in my office at the moment, so i can listen to it during work.
The mixture of tunes from the classic bump'n'grind to Ignition, leaves me in anticipation. I highly recommend this album, Classic R Kelly!!!
Essential
This is a must have album. R Kelly at his best! If u don't have it and your an RnB fan then i encourage you to buy this album!
