Customer Reviews
Enjoy all three episodes of Robbie's adventures.
Robbie the Reindeer's adventures are not quite up to the Aardman standard (although some Aardman staff were involved), but then again that would be nearly impossible. They are fun though with a broad style of humour that works on two levels for both kids and adults. The stories, characters, and animation are deliberately more manic and slapdash than Wallace and Gromit, but there's plenty going on with considerable attention to detail, meaning these short films can be watched repeatedly, and something new always crops up.
Hooves of Fire follows Robbie's attempts to beat his arch-enemy Blitzen at the Reindeer games. It's fast moving, but there's not much of a story. That's rectified in the Legend of the Lost Tribe, a fun tale in which Blitzen again seeks to best Robbie with the aid of a tribe of short Vikings. The final episode is Close Encounters of the Herd Kind, which perhaps overdoes the aliens aspect of the story, but gains plenty of fun from Robbie's wedding plans.
The jokes come quickly and the voices present a staggering array of comic talent such as Ardal O'Hanlon, Jane Horrocks, Steve Coogan, Ade Edmondson... the list is endless. The huge amount of effort and skill that has gone into these films is clear, so this dvd is great value.
