An excellent book by an excellent writer5
Irving Chernev is widely regarded as one of the best writers of chess books for average players. His clear and simple writing style, combined with his obvious knowledge and love of the game enabled him to produce many classic chess books.

Jose Raul Capablanca was the world chess champion from 1921-1927. He was renown for his seemingly effortless playing style and his particular skill at endings.

This book is one of Chernev's best and contains 60 complete Capablanca games analysed by Chernev in his own inimitable style. It manages the rare feat of being both instructive and entertaining at the same time.

As the title suggests, the emphasis throughout is on the endings. Many are deservedly famous (Game 36 against Tartakover is exquisite - "yes, forward on the foe!") and Chernev takes care to explain the plans and principles involved, only using more detailed analysis when necessary.

I have acquired a fair sized chess library but this book remains my favourite. I would recommend it to any club player who wants to improve their game and enjoy a great read at the same time.

Fine volume about a Worl dChampion5
Contains sixty of Capa's games with full annotations, but focusing on the marvellous precision that the Cuban exhibited in his endgame play. In particular I recommend his victories at New York '24 v. Emanuel Lasker and Savielly Tartakower. Also a fine game is Capa v.. Sammy Reshevsky, Nottingham '36. A game collection and a text book. Get this one!

Great for B-D class players3
Typical Reinfeld simplicity and clarity, but misses many critical and important lines. Fun and beneficial to most, but Grandmaster through A class players shouldn't expect a high level treatment here.
