Tomorrow begins right here as we embark on an enthralling and jargon-free journey into the world of computers and the inner recesses of the human mind. Readers encounter everything from the nanotechnology used to make insect-like robots, to the computers that perform surgery and, reminiscent of films like "Terminator", computers that can learn by teaching themselves. Assuming no technical expertise whatsoever, author Blay Whitby steers a careful course through this futuristic world, revealing the pervasive impact of AI on our daily lives, in addition to discovering the biggest controversies to dog this fascinating field.

Editorial Reviews
Review
This is a clear and level- headed approach to the subject, it provides a readable account of where AI research is today and makes it clear what AI is not. --Professor Noel Sharkey - University of Sheffield
I've long wished there was a clear, concise, comprehensive and infectiously enthusiastic text on aritificial intelligence that I could point to and say, 'read this and you will understand.' This is that book. Read it and you will understand. --Steve Grand, author of 'Creation: Life and How to Make it'
Professor Noel Sharkey, University of Sheffield

"Whitby's book is exciting, informative and up-to-date. This book is a 'must' for anyone who wants to find out about AI."
Customer Reviews
Great introduction to AI
A thoroughly enjoyable introduction to the fascinating field of AI, whether you are studying it or not.
I am doing a BSc in CS & AI and this text gave me a grounding in all the different areas of AI past and present. Use it to make the ideas in AI: A Modern Approach easier to understand. A good companion for that book.
A good book to gain understanding of a much ignored, greatly misunderstood field.
Nice introduction
A nice, descriptive and optimally detailed introduction to AI. It is meant for absolute beginners, with little technical details. The book overviews the history of AI, its present state and discusses about the the possible future (will machines rule the world?). Overall, a nice read.
Pretty good introduction
This book gives a good high-level view of what AI is about and the different things which are being researched. If anything it is a little too non-technical and rather brief but as a short introduction to the field it hits the mark.
