Product Description

Domestic loft conversions have gained enormously in popularity as a way of providing more space without the substantial cost of moving house. One third of all new build houses have lofts that can be used for habitation.

It is surprising therefore that there has been little published to date on the subject. This book provides technical guidance on loft conversions in single family dwellings, and is intended primarily for architects, builders, surveyors and others professionally involved in the process of loft conversion. However, it will also be of interest to students in construction and the self-build market.

For ease of use, the contents of the book are arranged to follow a typical construction sequence. Technical, design and regulatory aspects are all covered in full, and a good range of construction details are included.

Customer Reviews

Finally a 'proper' loft conversion book!5
If you want to employ an architect and a builder to convert your loft, this book is overkill. However, if you want detailed construction information, planning details and building regs information then this is the book for you.
Everything is laid out brilliantly with chapters on planning, building regs, floors, walls and roof.
If you want to do your own loft conversion - BUY THIS BOOK!

Extremely useful5
Covers all the technical aspects of loft conversion in depth, including timber and steel design, dormer construction, fire safety, insulation/energy efficiency requirements etc with plenty of detailed drawings to back it up. There's also a lot of excellent legal and procedural material (i.e. how permitted development/planning law applies to conversions, party walls issues, how local authorities apply the building regs to loft conversions and so on). Very thorough and well worth the money.
