Customer Reviews

Don't waste your money1
I can't believe that the previous reviewers were reading the same book as I was.
This book is badly put together random paragraphs and looks rediculously outdated. It is littered with 'humorous' cartoons that I found stupid and patronising. It is laid out in magazine style but with less style and content.
Under the section for 'Installing a septic tank' for example, it tells you what one is, in about 3 sentences, no more information can be seen on septic tanks.

If you must by a book on building, you can spend your £12 in a much better way (I recommend The Housebuilders Bible)

The only thing that I can see anyone finding that this is a good book is if they have no previous building or DIY experience what so ever.

Best Step by Step Guide for Layman5
Having built my own 2 storey extension for around £10k, (2 rooms), I releid heavily on book and the internet. This book is the best one for explaining the steps and choices you make, in a step by step guide for the layman, necessary to 'understand' a project. Highly recommend this and the housebuilders bible, which gives detial and prices necessary to be able to actually 'manage' a project.

Home extension due4
I bought this because I am about to embark on a large extension & want to remind myself of building terminology & practices. It was also to give my wife an insight into building terms.

Yes the book is useful but as I was in the building trade a few years ago (15) I do remember a lot of this. This book would be useful to someone with little or no knowledge of building. But it does not tell you everything you will need to know.

I found it did not go into enough detail in some areas like plumbing, heating controls etc. House design is changing & home automation is becomming more common as is underfloor heating.

It is very hard nowadays to get a book that covers all aspects. This book was helpful to myself.
