Review
'...the Trailblazer series stands head, shoulders, waist and ankles above the rest.
They are particularly strong on mapping...' [the maps are] 'user-friendly, with route-finding tips scribbled onto the map itself. Gradients are indicated by arrows - great if you don't know your contours from your condors.'

Customer Reviews

The perfect companion5
I used this booked to walk the whole of the SDW in October 2005. I found it an absolutely invaluable companion. The information regarding accomodation and services was accurate and helpful, but more importantly I ended up using the book for all my navigation, as opposed to the OS maps I had with me, such was the convenience and accuracy of it. Add to that its small compact size, and some interesting background reading as well, and you couldn't ask for anything more. I also used it to plan the trip in advance, in terms of how much to walk per day and which stops to make. The perfect companion indeed.

Superb guide to the walk, West to East5
Absolutely the best book to buy if you're planning the walk starting in Winchester and ending in Eastbourne.

Contains everything you need to know - where to stay, when to go, who will book it and transport luggage, what to look out for - just everything. Excellent maps.

Peerless.

A thorough and excellent guide for planning and walking the Way5
This book is just as applicable for people walking from Eastbourne to Winchester (I didn't myself) as the directions can easily be reversed; however I personally feel finishing in Eastbourne is much more natural climax to the whole walk.

The book itself is fantastic, it's an ideal resource for planning your trip as much as it is for actually walking the South Downs Way with its excellent, accurate and useful mapping. I did take the OS sheets and did refer to them a little for when I needed to deviate from the trail (to/from accommodation mainly) but overall I think this is one of the best travel guides I have ever bought.

A valuable and dare I say necessary companinion for this walk. It's also small, and the binding is such that it will endure the abuse of walking with it.

Highly recommended.
