In Rachel Covington's view, the world is divided into two kinds of people: those who have children and those who don't. Neither side can understand the other and each believe that they have the best deal. Rachel herself is sexy, selfish, single and smug. She's very happy with her fabulous, flirty life full of parties, clothes and hairdos. Then one day she meets Nick Maxwell and sets in motion a chain of events that change her life irrevocably. Nick makes Rachel feel dizzy, light-hearted and thrilled. But then he doesn't call. And Rachel finds she is pregnant. Suddenly she is catapulted headlong into her worst nightmare and is faced with a dreadful dilemma: should she keep the baby and change her life forever or keep things exactly the way they are? "Thanks for Nothing, Nick Maxwell" is the touching story of Rachel's personal journey. But it's not all tears, cravings and morning sickness. A chance meeting in a supermarket leads Rachel to Hector, a tall, dark stranger who makes her laugh and is the exact opposite of Nick Maxwell.

Editorial Reviews
OK Magazine
Rachel's perfect yet somewhat selfish existence as a party-loving gal can't get any better. But then she meets Nick and suddenly her harmonious life is turned upside down when she discovers she's pregnant
Heat Magazine
She's vain, self-obsessed and pregnant after shagging the office cad on her sitting room floor. Admittedly, Rachel Covington seems an unlikely heroine. Your first instinct is to roll your eyes in a silly-cow-should've-been-more-careful way. A few chapters in, though, and you're as interested in her and her unborn as you would be if she was your best friend. We're not quite sure how Debbie Carbin manages to hook us into caring about `one of the best-looking people you'll meet' (Rachel's own estimation), but before you know it you'll be racing through the chapters so quickly you'll forget to eat or go to the loo. Of course, there's a romance too, with a man who she thinks is a stranger, but just happens to be her best friend's husband's brother. Yet it's Rachel's sweet, fresh and funny account of pregnancy that makes this such a good read.
Jessica Brody, author of The Fidelity Files
"Debbie Carbin is a fresh and entertaining new voice in women's fiction. With an engaging style and an unrivaled sense of humor, she holds the reader willingly captive until the very last page. Do you see me sitting on my couch, reading this book until 3:00 in the morning? Notice how I just can't put it down. That's how much I loved it!"

Be careful not to miss your bus stop!
Thanks for Nothing Nick Maxwell is one of my favourite chick-lit books since Bridget Jones. It's witty and fun but also at times very moving. It had me so engrossed that I ended up missing my bus stop one day, and coming in to work all tearful the next! The main character is great. Instead of being the usual heroine of this genre, who's gorgeous and doesn't know it, or never matches up to her beautiful friend; she loves herself, but is so funny and naïve with it that you come to love her too. The unique narrative is also very fresh and new, and tells the story from a really fun angle. I will be recommding this to all my friends.
A brilliant read.
I'm not really a chick-lit type, more a thriller/detective novel fan, but I've recently met the (very lovely) author a few times and - if I'm honest - felt I ought to read her book. Well all I can say is, thank God I met her! It's just such a lovely, funny book. I started off really detesting Rachel but as she learned some humility and gained maturity, I started to warm to her. So many interesting little twists and turns and a deep understanding of human relationships. Particularly when I reached the second half of the book I had to make sure I didn't start reading before work or I wouldn't have got anything done. I'll be first in the queue for her next book!
Quirky and that little bit different
The format of this book saved it from getting just 3 stars. It was written in the first person in a real conversationalist manner that made it easy to read and quite amusing. Rachel wasn't the most endearing of characters but her experiences and reactions to said events made this an entertaining read - Hector was lovely!
It really went up in my estimation in the last few chapters. A surprise and emotional turn if events pushed this into another level just when I had relegated it to nothing more than your average summer beach read. Granted, it's not going to win any literary prizes - it's chick lit straight down the line, but it was surprisingly good.
