Average customer review:Product Description
We've discovered over 900 special pubs and inns for you to try, all inspected, all special. There are stacks for those who like their pubs with real ale on draft and pickled eggs on the bar and for those who like leather sofas and chalkboard menus. We have boisterous boozers and tasteful taverns; you need never be stuck in a grim, swirly-carpeted, jukebox-rattled corner ever again!

'Carefully put together, expertly edited and full of the sort of recommendations we're all looking for' Good Food Magazine 'Brilliant pub guide' The Observer
About the Author
A pioneer in the environmental world, Alastair Sawday has had a remarkably miscellaneous and varied career, which has taken him to the most far-flung corners of the globe: he headed up a VSO programme in Papua New Guinea, ran a disaster relief team for Oxfam in Turkey, and has run a small travel company, conducting walking tours throughout Europe. It was this that inspired him to publish his first travel guide, French Bed & Breakfast, after discovering various ‘special’ B&Bs and the extraordinary people that run them

Very simply a more selective pub guide
This is a more 'upmarket' version of the very successful 'Good Pub Guide'. The Sawdays guide is far more selective than the Good Pub Guide in that it does not try to cover so many establishments. The recommendations that are made however are extremely reliable - so far I have not been disapointed once. There are some very fine examples of pubs (gastro and traditional) the majority of which also serve fantastic food and/or offer some form of unique charm. I usually judge whether the style of recommendations suits what 'you' like to find in a pub by reading what they say about places I know well and deciding if I agree. So far I have not found a description that I could fault in any way, either with pubs I know well or new ones I have tried. I have also found the layout of this book slightly more intuitive than the Good Pub Guide. The GPG definitely covers more options though. Personally I would buy them both as they actually compliment each other very well.
