Good quailty, great looks, shame about the wireless adaptor4
I have to say I am very happy with this Sony Laptop. The price is great considering the brand, and the quality of the product.

The casing of the Laptop is silver, but has a textured effect over it making it look like brushed aluminium from a distance and very `Mac book' in its form factor and keyboard. It has a much more expensive feel than any of the other manufactures at this price point and not being the typical black or cheap and tacky looking shinny plastic really makes for a nice change.

It's built in Webcam is great. Very clear and works well with Skype, MSN Messenger and the like. Bundled software: You may well like to begin getting rid of unneeded additions shortly after turning it on. Gone is Windows Vista's sidebar, in preference of Google's Desktop application. Together with some good and some not so good Sony applications and third party software.

    The bad side:

First and foremost is the wireless adaptor inside the Viao. I hit a lot of problems getting it to connect to my router. A D-Link model. Indeed it took much searching forums online to find many other Viao owners encountered this with various makes of routers.

It would connect if I took the security off the router (but who wants to do that) and in the end took a Firmware upgrade to get the laptop to connect and work. If this should happen to you, please do make a written note of all your internet settings for these are lost once the update to the firmware is complete.

It may be that this model of Vaio has b, g and draft n standard wireless options available. My router is only a g standard and perhaps this caused some issues, but thought worth pointing out my Acer and Compaq machines connected fine with their wireless adaptors, together with my Nokia
mobile only the Sony needed me to update firmware for it to work and be stable.

Finally for any musicians out there or indeed anyone who might like to record audio using software such as Audacity you will not be able to with a Sony Vaio. This is due to the fact Sony disable the `Stereo Mix' control in the recording mixer setup. You cannot enable it and there is no fix at least I have found in my searches online.

Overall, for the price and spec this is wonderful. You can watch DVD's, type documents, surf the net and even play some mid rang games without it breaking sweat. Battery life is OK and better than my Acer which has similar specification and screen size. I would say buy this while you can at this price, for I could not come close to it on the Highstreet and even on other online retailers.

    Nice Laptop5
This is really quite a nice laptop. The appearance is outstanding and the screen has good colour rendition. The keyboard has a good feel and the battery lasts for at least two hours without the need to recharge. The spec is pretty good with the only absence of note being that here is no standalone graphics card. However my daughter has loaded Rome Total war and World of Warcraft and both appear to play well. The software bundle is nothing special and a fair amount of junk that would be best deleted. The hard drive has a good capacity, which is needed as I was shocked at how resource hungry Windows Vista is. The WiFi on my computer works well. For the money this is a quality product and looks and works first class. I researched this thoroughly before I bought and I have not been disappointed and would be happy to recommend

Great laptop for a cracking price!4
This Christmas we decided to buy our daughter a laptop, and so began the inevitable grind of going around all the shops looking at all the different models, comparing prices, specifications etc I don't know about you but after a while they all began to look alike and all this talk of GB and processing power leave my head spinning. Then we called into a Sony shop.

The Sony VAIO range of computers are considered very good quality (although I suspect you are paying for the name) but they seemed out of our price range until we discovered the new NS series. Designed as a "budget" or level entry range it seemed ideal and the specifications were as good as many we had looked at. We had to wait until mid January before they became available but after owning this for nearly a month then I can safely say if you want a powerful spec at a value for money price, choose this laptop.

It holds an Intel Pentium Processor T3400, which easily powers all your office and multimedia apps. Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium deals with multimedia applications, as well as a media centre, which helps you organise all your photos, movies and music. The impressive 3GB Memory means that even memory intensive tasks can run smoothly and without hitch. It has a built in webcam which delivers very good quality pictures (and there's nio hassle with screen mounted cameras & installation) A 15.4" screen delivers clear, bright picture quality.

Thanks to 4 USB connections, you can hook up your external devices like mp3 player, printer, digital camera and more for easy data transfer. It also holds a memory stick slot for downloading data from your memory stick.

It also has a DVD Rewriter Drive, which lets you burn information to a wide variety of DVD discs. This means that you can always keep long-lasting copies of all your most important data, meaning you never have to lose those precious digital photographs again.

This model looks OK in silver, if a little basic, but you might be interested to know that it also comes in a soft pink as well.
