Customer Reviews

Brilliant.4
Amazon seems to have lost my original review... probably because I suggested you should shop around before purchasing here... so I'm afraid this one will be far more abrupt.

This is an excellent system, but not without its flaws- so, very quickly,

PROS:

1000W of power- Can happily listen to music on "5". Upset the neighbours on "15". This thing goes up to "40".

Gorgeous looks- those of you who love "glossy black" will love this, although be aware that the subwoofer and every other speaker is not completely covered in glossy black as you may think the picture suggests- it is only the front of the speakers covered in the good stuff. The Side and back of the speakers are covered in the conventional, boring, non-glossy black plastic you may find on a mobile phone.

1080p upscaling- always a bonus. Can't comment on how well it works because I don't have a HDTV.

Station presets- this has something like 50, although you shouldnt need more than 10.

Surround Sound- Lovely- but took about 4 hours to find the right setting!

CONS:

Terrible manual- doesn't tell you anything you need to know, so much fiddling about with the settings and random testing is required if you want the LG to perform for you.

Direct iPod dock- not quite. You may belive, as I did, that the direct iPod dock is indeed a little slot on top of the DVD player that you clip your iPod into. Instead, it's a cable connecting the DVD player to the iPod. Fun!

Charges iPod while playing- again, not quite. On OSD iPod mode, which requires you to use an on-screen interface on the television to select the song you want, it does indeed charge. On iPod mode, the one where you can actually select shuffle songs or listen to podcasts, the iPod does not charge. Be prepared.

No cables- indeed. You get the wires to connect the DVD player to all of the speakers (note: be careful when connecting and make sure the wire makes contact with the speaker connections, and not the plastic covering of the wire- sounds simple but is easy to do!). You do not, however, get a scart or HDMI connection cable to connect the DVD player to your television, or RGB audio cables to connect to the TV. I had to "borrow" those cables from my parents.

On the whole, however, a gorgeous and deafening system. You just have to be prepared to spend a couple of hours setting the system up!
