Synopsis

Faithfully adapted from Willian Styron's best-selling novel, Alan J. Pakula's handsome production of Sophie's Choice (Special Edition) charts the course of an eccentric and intense love triangle in 1947 Brooklyn, New York. Meryl Streep won an Academy Award for her carefully nuanced performance and perfect accent as Sophie--a Polish survivor of a WWII concentration camp who harbors a devastating secret. The film is told through the eyes of an aspiring Southern author named Stingo (Emmy-nominated Peter MacNichol of "Ally Mcbeal"), who moves to New York and who strikes a friendship with Sophie and her boyfriend Nathan (played by Kevin Kline in his debut screen role).

A masterpeice5
I absolutely loved this film when I watched it for the first time and each time I watch it I am still in awe of the talent on the screen. Ms Streep is amazing as the torn concentration camp survivor and delivers THE best performance in her career so far and in my opinion the best performance by any actress of her generation. Kevin Kline and Peter McNicol are just as spell-binding as Meryl Streep and bring in the edge of danger and innocence. It is a beautiful and tragic tale of Sophie's past that is profoundly moving and intelligent. A totally unforgettable and moving film.

This is the DVD to get!5
Anyone who looking for Sophie Choice, this 25th Anniversary is THE ONE to get! Sound is in STEREO, no 5.1. Most important, it is in ANAMORPHIC WIDESCREEN!

GOOD BUT NOT THAT GOOD4
Watched this film for the second time and still have some reservations about it. Somewhat overrated regarding the acting of Meryl Streep I feel she didn`t always convince me. Very strong subject matter but failed to make me feel that involved with her and her sorrow. Loved the acting of the actor playing Stingo(having a senior moment can`t remember his name)
Felt for him a lot involved with two such troubled charaters as a young man finding his way in life. Gave the film 4 stars on the strength of his performance.
