Realistic combat from kata5
This is a great DVD for karateka interested in making realistic links between kata movements and combat. It concentrates on drilling and working close range techniques, such as grappling, clinching and using the knees and elbows. I think brown belts and above would get more out of this than lower grades just starting out. There is some explanation of bunkai, although the DVD doesn't concentrate on this. Abernethy Sensie gives clear, entertaining, respectful instruction to his students. He lectures on the perils of remaining on the floor too long and reminds us that it is important to escape, when applying self defence. The pictures are well lit and good and clear. Enjoyed watching immensely.

Karate - A new way to learn5
Once again Iain Abernethy takes karate to another level. His kata based sparring methods are the most innovative thing to come into karate in ages. This is what the discipline needs - new ideas, new approaches and a pioneering instructor like mr Abernethy. Great quality DVD - miss it at your peril.
