Think before you buy
In my experience, the stated running costs seem to be for the 400watt setting, peak and off peak prices. I have a hard to heat flat with large single glazed windows and a cold concrete floor, after a few days of experimenting, I went back to using my old ineffiecent night storage heater. It has replaced my cermic fan heater in the bathroom (bear in mind, if water were to hit the element, it'd probably shatter). This heater on 400 watt setting heats a room much better than a cermic fan heater on a 1000 watts, does it silently and provides enough light to read a book by 6 feet away, it's THAT bright. It also goes BEEP very loudly whenever you do anything to it, including setting it down when plugged in. Other negative is the heater is quite a size (though lightweight),it doesn't take up too much floor space but will do for storage. The remote control is very cool, that and how bright it is probably makes it the ideal heater for a cold bedroom on a winter's morning.
I don't recommend this heater is a primary heat source. It's far too bright when it's turned on, and room seems very dark when turned off. Vistors will also comment on the brightness/darkness factor. I guess I have saved some money because I've been able to turn my lounge night storage heater down, knowing I have a good source of silent (apart from the BEEP) heating with the halogen.
My purchase was very much based on the running costs quoted, I was very disappointed to discover it costs far more than 3p an hour to run on peak electricity. It does heat a room very well and very quickly for what it does cost to run, so ideal for instant heat. However, for heating a room over a long period of time, I believe something with a thermostat would be more economical over a period of hours. Of course the halogen can be turned on and off at will but with how bright it is followed by how dark it seems when it goes off... and first time I used the self timer, the BEEP of it turning itself off made me jump.

The heat is on
Small compact,looks well made, a little on the light side though.
However it is an attractive bit of kit and it works well. It comes with its own burgular alarm as well a very loud BEEP. It also rotates very quietly,you wont hear a thing, and the remote control is easy to use and also works well. This machine is very good for a smallish to medium sized room, it heats up nicely,the only downside I feel is it is a triffle bright. In fact you could read a book by it. All in all Im glad I bought it, I put it in my bedroom set the timer for 1 hour and its toasty time.

Igenix 1200W Halogen Heater
Certainly economical and impressed at the minimum usage of 2.6p per hour. These heaters ar designed for a large space. Instant heat and the oscillation means you get good distribution of heat.Lightweight and easily poratble. However the halogen heater is intensely bright to the point of giving me a headache. So buy a good pair of shades to wear!
