Synopsis
When a child enters a new family with its own established lifestyle and ways of doing things - all of which can be overwhelming and confusing - grandparents and other relatives can help to guide the new child through what may seem to be an incomprehensible maze of values, standards and behaviours. Older relatives are also usually the main "storytellers" in the family and hold the collective memories. Listening to family stories can provide adopted children with an opportunity to familiarise themselves with their new relatives. This book is a guide to providing it.
Customer Reviews
Great intro for family and friends
I bought this book as my parents wanted to find out what they could do to support my husband and I through the adoption process. Since buying a copy for them I have been back and bought another 6 copies for all our relatives and closest friends, as it's relevant to anyone who will be involved in the life of the children we adopt.
It would be good to go into a bit more depth on some topics, but as an introduction it's great, and will give the people we are closest to a good appreciation for the process we are going through, but more importantly for the kind of issues that the children we adopt may face, and what role they can play in their lives.
Involvement in Adoption
A mine of useful information/helpful hints for anyone about to be involved in the potentially complex but highly rewarding process of adoption.
